Delta State Police Chief Michael Peeler said there was also no evidence of an ongoing threat to students and faculty. He told reporters Monday the death investigation was being assisted by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation as well as local police and sheriff’s deputies.
Online rumors that the student was found with broken limbs were disputed by Bolivar County Coroner Randolph Seals Jr.
A black person hanging from a tree, in a southern state, is itself a sign of foul play.
The family is seeking an independent autopsy. Do we know about how long that will take? Somehow, no matter the results, I doubt i’ll continue to see much about this specific incident in national news, and I’d like to remind myself to check back in on this.
Shouldn’t take long but yes the media will be over this by then, they barely touched it.
This is going to be another one of those “we demand justice for” and within a month Trump will be badmouthing the poor guy that was hanged.
*lynched
No disrespect meant, but that’s what this was (barring independent evidence to the contrary).
There was nobody around using bed sheets or burning crosses. Let’s not jump into conclusions.
Strange Fruit. https://share.google/iONMg29BOy47BQSJz
Oh, ABC says that? The Nazi propaganda machine that just fired Jimmy Kimmel? Nothing to see here folks!
A black person hanging from a tree in Mississippi? Sure, it could be suicide, but c’mon. Let’s be real here. It’s on them to prove that this wasn’t a lynching.
Black people don’t hang themselves. To do so is to inflict the fear of a lynching on your loved ones and community. So if you hear that a black person committed suicide by hanging, assume lynching.
Sure, it could be suicide, but c’mon
I think a person killing themselves would probably not try to frame others for it. What, he thought it would be funny?
So yeah, no way in hell am I buying that this was a suicide.
Accountability? For police? 😐
people need to stop paying federal taxes.
This one is on Mississippi. Withholding federal taxes won’t help with this.
This was in Cleveland, in the Mississippi Delta. For those who don’t know, the Mississippi Delta had some of the largest plantations in Mississippi and the racial and economic divide still very much holds up today. Plus Mississippi authorities are some of the most racist in the country, so no foul play my ass
Yeah, you know, black people hang themselves all the time in Mississippi.
Don’t know what about Mississippi makes black people want to hang themselves so much more than in other states. Must be a black people issue.
Some trees in Mississippi have always grown hanging black people don’t you know?
What strange fruit those trees have,
Scrolled looking. Beat me to it.
Lol make sure you believe the county coronor!! It’s a job you can get just by pretending to know things. There are literally no qualifications beyond being appointed. I bet that guy really knows his stuff.
some places theyre elected
Interesting
Poor kid. Whether suicide or otherwise. A tragedy.
It’s Mississippi. It was a lynching, and like every lynching in the past, they’ve said “oh it must have been a suicide, we’ve got no evidence!”
Chances are, the people investigating them are friends with, or in fact are, the people that did it,
Still a fucking tragedy
Absolutely.
But it wasn’t a suicide. It was murder.
Reddit bans all mention of that.
