At this point, I think he’s just banking on the fact that his supporters are incredibly stupid.

But they’re also conspiracy theorists, and trump controls all aspects of the government.
There’s no “deep state” left to blame, and they love hating the establishment more than they love trump or anyone else.
He’s not going to get them to stop caring about this. And he’s not going to react well to them not doing what he wants

This trait is about to backfire brilliantly.
They have no problem being inconsistent.
They’re convinced Democrats were drinking the blood of babies but have ignored Trump’s Epstein friendship, his comments about young girls and his own daughter, as well as a recording of him bragging about sexually assaulting women since the first election. They have no problem dismissing things that would otherwise confirm a Democrat would have been better.
How did this take 8+ fucking years?
Did we mention his supporters are unbelievably stupid?
They want someone to ‘drain the swamp’ of corruption: they choose the guy who worked a lot with the mob in New York, and showers dictators with praise, while breaking the Constitution’s emoluments clause and repeatedly committing open corruption.
They want someone to get to the bottom of the child abuse scandal surrounding Epstein: they choose his literal best friend who has been credibly accused of rape by multiple parties.
They want a Christian to lead the country to rebuild on the faith: they choose a three time adulterer who cheated on his current wife with a porn star and made payments to keep her quiet.
This is just the tip of the iceberg and it’s all public knowledge.
They are dumb as rocks.
If you’re going to rely on conspiracy theorists seeking to expose deep state pedophiles to sweep you into power, don’t be a deep state pedophile. You’d think this should be obvious, but apparently not.
It’s actually the opposite, that’s an incredibly common and unfortunately effective strategy.

I have no doubts in my mind that trump and Epstein were as good friends as two narcissistic assholes are capable of being.
But it’s also pretty damn clear to me that trump isn’t exactly the letter-writing type.
I suspect how this all played out is that Maxwell was putting together this book for Epstein, and reached out to trump for his contribution
And so trump had some lackey throw together something appropriately sleazy for it and just signed it wherever he was told to sign.
And I don’t think that’s even just a trump thing, I’m pretty sure just about any celebrity, politician, etc. has staff whose job is to answer mail for them.
And he’s too much of a moron and narcissistic asshole to say that, so instead he’s going all-in on it being forged.
But if he were someone with a half functioning brain, that’s all he would need to say “I am a very busy man, so I can’t remember every piece of mail I sent 20 years ago, I probably had an intern write it for me, and I just signed where they told me to, I probably didn’t even read it, I trusted my staff to write a good letter because I have the best people working for me”
And boom totally plausible, keeps the whole thing at arms-length from himself, and probably pretty damn close to the truth.
