The key part to note is that the cancellation of the show did not need to be mandated by the state because the state represents the interests of the ruling class which is the capital owning class. The capitalists who own the network made a political decision to cancel him.
Its also to set an example that no discourse is allowed because all Kimmel did was point out that Trump didn’t seem to care much about Kirk by posting that video where he is asked about Kirk and he starts rambling that he is happy that there is a lot of trucks hauling stuff for his saloon.
