I haven’t been checking politics subs (or communities as they’re known as on lemmy) much, but just did today, and immediately realized that the best sort, sort by controversial, is missing.
I always felt that just breeds toxicity and trolls.
Yes, it’s true I don’t need to sort by it, but it invites bad behavior.
Agreed. For every earnest but intensely debated opinion expressed there will be thirty people trying to toe the line so as to pull in replies. The honest and willing debater is going to post anyway, but trolls are incentivized by, uh, incentives.

Now when was the last time you did that to try to see actual different views to challenge and expand your own and try to grow into a better, more understanding person instead of just seeing what sort of dumb shit people are posting and then maybe trying to dunk on them?
usually I just do it for the funzies but sometimes I do want to see if there’s other takes

yeah I don’t use it often either. That’s why I didn’t realize it wasn’t there until after I browsed some political subs
