    I have an idea:
Drive the Euthanasia van to where billionaires live, let 4 armed guards show them how it works and politely suggest they donate 1% of their wealth.
Then use that money to provide housing, free healthcare, mental help and job training to all homeless people.

1%? Why stop there? If you’re going through all the effort you can politely ask for 99% as well, they still get to live a very comfortable life and you get to pay for so many more good things

Education, healthcare for all, good public transit, etc

What and leave them destitute with only a measly 10 million dollars to their name?

        Unthinkable!

And that’s only for exactly 1 billion, 99% of Musk would leave him with 1.9 billion dollars, so let’s go beyond 1% left for many of them.

Your mind automagically was more magnanimous than my first thought in a similar track. But I’ve been in my feels for a couplea days. I should learn more temperance and f my feels.

Ooh, I like it. Billionaires could really use a lesson in the function and operation of a van-mounted guillotine.

Here’s the million dollar question: What song would it play so you’d know it’s coming? e.g. ice cream trucks play The Entertainer, the euthanasia van plays…what?

The Gary Jules version of Mad World?

Unrelated Belgian techno anthem 'Pump up the Jam'?

It could probably drive around shopping centers and big box store employee lots too.

High-rise office buildings could install them on-site to avoid congestion when those inside hear the van’s jingle down the street. For an eco-friendly solution, they can just leave a few open windows on the upper floors.

“Jeez, things are really bad out there. Maybe we should try to redue the suffering of all mankind?”

“Nah, let’s jut drive around with a murder van and ask people if they want to volunteer to die.”

Seems like it would be better to take whatever funds could be used for de facto murdering the unhoused and put them towards better outreach, welfare and assistance programs.

This wouldn’t address any of the causes of homelessness, either, merely some NIMBY notion of “I don’t like seeing em”.

In summary, it’s called unpopular opinions, not asinine ones.

Why kill off a perfectly good labor force? Send them to colonize the Moon, Mars, etc… If you’re going to be an evil despot, at least think bigger.

Swap “sarco pod” for “guillotine”, “homeless” for “insurance executives” and “ask” for “tell”.

@mogo you’re essentially talking about Social Cleansing.

Pretty popular in Guatemala and parts of Brazil. Can’t afford the fancy machines but they still manage the killing homeless people part.

No! There is a serious lack of reading comprehension skills today in online discussions.

Do you see the word “asking”? What does that word mean or imply? It means or implies that it would be voluntary.

If you want to bring up slippery slopes then do so but don’t misconstrue what other people write.

        @mogo fair enough.

I was talking about the general principles, aims, and effect of your policy, which is the same.

The methods you want to employ are much more gentle than much other social cleansing.

Though in practical terms, between consent issues around age, drugs, mental illness etc and the fact that on-the-ground public services tend to involve a KPI mentality, they might not be as different to each other as you envisage.
