Wish people wouldn’t even post this stuff. Giving attention to these dumb fucks is exactly what they want. If you’re posting / commenting / engaging, then you already lost. And yes, I regret having to leave this comment.

as long as we self-identify as workers, out task is to be productive. that’s when we feel forced to do things like make babies.

the solution ofc is primarily to not self-identify as a worker and to enforce that self-identification against other people who want to enslave you

If you are a family capable of raising ten cats and you do not, you owe me an explanation.

If you are a man capable of making me a cup of coffee right now and you aren’t, why? No. Not just me, tell the world!

I have never been able to wrap my mind around needing everyone else to live the way you do. I don’t care, just cannot care. I had lots of kids and helped raise more, it was great, I enjoyed it so much. That has never once made me think everyone else in the world should do the same, it makes no sense. People want & enjoy different things, we are individuals.

See the word “bible” up there? It explicitly commands a whole list of deadly nonsense under threat of supernatural punishment.

Not only the bible. Many religious texts out there give you arbitrary rules that ensure otherworldy punishement if you dont somehow follow them all as closely as you can.

Yeah, things like “feed the poor”, “treat others with justice”, “pay the workers what they are owed - and do it today, not two weeks from now”, “women’s rights are human rights”, and crazy shit like that.

Or, depending on who you ask about it, alternatively “yOu NeEd To LeT tHiS mAn StIcK iT uP yOuR bUtT”.

Not everything claimed to be in any particular text, religious or otherwise, is actually there. Sometimes people just lie.

          Specifically, 1 Timothy 2:

11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

Let’s see what christians are getting out of it.

That biblical blessing and that voice of nature and that God-given longing should be followed, I’m arguing, unless God himself makes it crystal clear that the self-denying path of Christ-exalting obedience is childlessness.

          https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/are-christian-couples-required-to-have-kids

I think the deliberate choice not to have children is nearly always wrong.

          https://www.challies.com/articles/is-it-okay-deliberately-not-to-have-children/

This is it in a nutshell:

The world tells us we deserve happiness. The Bible tells a different story.

In other words, “have children even if you and they are all miserable for it.”

They even quote a bible verse that likens children to ammunition, weapons:

Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.

          https://www.crosswalk.com/family/parenting/is-it-a-sin-to-choose-not-to-have-children.html

Do not defend child abuse. Do not support death cults. Children who have no choice in the matter suffer and die for it.

I mentioned already in my response to your other comment that husbands are ALSO called to submit themselves to their wives. Jesus did more for women’s rights than anyone else in history, as far as I am aware. There are so very exceedingly many valid criticisms of the Bible, but quoting the New Testament in particular does not seem to me to be one of them. In the context of its era, it was radically revolutionary.

I hadn’t heard that from Desiring God. I presume he clearly demonstrated his own opinion as separate and distinct from anything actually stated in the actual, literal Bible? Your quotes here seem to say thus.

So, off the cuff mind you, my guess is that it’s old and that this advice, which if it had been given 50 years ago may well have been true(-ish), as in most couples indeed may be happier to have kids than not? Even if only for a retirement plan, while those who adamantly do not want them will not herd such advice regardless, so a simplistic mantra offered to the simple-minded with the aim of helping them arrive at a conclusion that they would have reached themselves eventually, given sufficient time and energy and efforts? Yeah I’m okay with that, in that context.

Today would be a different story I think… so it seems a matter of an elderly pastor giving out of date advice, not keeping up with the times, but again - CRUCIALLY - making sure to distinguish that it was merely his own opinion. It’s okay to have personal opinions, even incorrect ones?

And from my very first comment in this thread I have in no way defended child abuse, saying in fact rather the opposite. ThAt’S whAt ThIs CaPiTaLiZaTiOn StYlE mEaNs?

              Liar. Quote the verse.

Jesus did more for women’s rights than anyone else in history

No, cuntface, Jesus said women belong to his dad. What the fuck is wrong with you?

There are so very exceedingly many valid criticisms of the Bible, but quoting the New Testament in particular does not seem to me to be one of them.

Hey dipshit: the WHOLE THING is based on “submit to me or I’ll punish you for eternity.” Idiot. Did you forget to read the rest of the bible?

In the context of its era, it was radically revolutionary.

It was cancer then, and it is cancer now.

So, off the cuff mind you

Shut the fuck up until you’ve read it all.

              It is cancer.

my guess is that it’s old and that this advice, which if it had been given 50 years ago may well have been true(-ish)

Wrong. There is no god. There is no divine punishment or reward.

most couples indeed may be happier to have kids than not?

Cite an empirical study before making such claims, fuckface. And do not disregard the fact that many couples should not have children.

Even if only for a retirement plan

Excuse the fuck out of you? Children don’t own their parents jack shit. Die alone, selfish moron.

so a simplistic mantra offered to the simple-minded with the aim of helping them arrive at a conclusion that they would have reached themselves eventually, given sufficient time and energy and efforts? Yeah I’m okay with that, in that context.

Honest minds can be changed with sufficient evidence.

              Fuck yourself to death.

It’s okay to have personal opinions, even incorrect ones?

No. Not if those baseless opinions result in real harm to real people, which is what is happening now. Fuckface

And from my very first comment in this thread I have in no way defended child abuse

You literally did, and you still are.

Christianity is a death cult. All christians abuse their children because they love a fake god more than their real kids.

Have you read the whole bible, or just a few verses from the gospels?

Yeah, things like “feed the poor”

          …if they’re the right race.

          “treat others with justice”

Meaning “burn them for all time if they don’t bow to me.”

“pay the workers what they are owed - and do it today, not two weeks from now”

“Give up all your possessions and follow me.” “All authority is christian authority, so always obey authority.” Horrible stuff.

          “women’s rights are human rights”

But they evidently are not in the bible. Women are treated as property. “Wives, submit to your husbands.” “Women should listen instead of speak.”

Do you know how Abram conceived a child? He raped his wife’s slave. The slave fled. God sent an angel to tell her to go back and have her rapist’s baby.

Do you know how David was punished? His wives were raped. He was not.

          crazy shit like that.

It is crazy shit, built on the utterly unproven claim that a god exists at all.

Or, depending on who you ask about it, alternatively “yOu NeEd To LeT tHiS mAn StIcK iT uP yOuR bUtT”.

The subjectivity of interpretation is a huge problem with it. That’s how we get loud and proud rape and genocide apologists, homophobes, etc.

Not everything claimed to be in any particular text, religious or otherwise, is actually there. Sometimes people just lie.

Right, like Jesus lied about being god. He got himself and others killed and we’re still dealing with the fallout 2000 years later.

The bible is a terrible book that nobody should take seriously. Please find a more consistent source of morality and stop defending the abuser’s handbook. Please never encourage people like my parents again.

In the USA on January, where people “defending” the Constitution… or merely claiming that that was what they were doing?

But I see what you mean: pedophilic priests weren’t the focus of your comment so much as what the actual text said.

Yes, Jewish law applied to citizens, although iirc foreigners could become such also - not chiefly a “race” so much as a culture, bound by laws. Also, it was relatively advanced for its era (many thousands of years ago) - e.g. avoid pork especially with blood aka Salmonella, and treat literal slaves better than many countries treat their employees today. Women even had rights - less than men but they were there, unlike so many others in the regions nearby. Also, why leave out the closely related verse “husbands, also submit yourselves to your wives…”

Anyway, it’s a violent bloody history of conquest and genocidal practices, I’m not trying to say otherwise, just adding that “love thy neighbor” is kinda cool and if people would ACTUALLY try doing that, whether bc they read it in this book or otherwise, then the world would be a far better place than it is today.

Some of your arguments need polishing though - e.g. give up your possessions and follow me was an optional offer, which was declined. Too bad, bc greed is a soul killer, no matter what religion someone claims they believe - just one look into the eyes of Zuckerberg or Bezos or Musk should anyone who has a soul. Money is essential to live, but the LOVE of it is the exact opposite, and I stand with Jesus and whoever says so (the Buddha I believe may have uttered thoughts along similar lines… Zen).

And no, justice in the Old Testament did not mean that - that came later, and iirc wasn’t so much called by justice. In the OT, it was rather an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, and unless I miss my guess, most passages talking about justice like that mean like administrative people, as in judges (and mayors and the like) should not accept bribes. Which… really? Surely you aren’t arguing that they should! Remember the New Testament admonition of people who heap heavy burdens into others without lifting a finger to help? Even - many even say especially - Jesus called out bad religion whenever warranted.

The burn in hellfire forever thing was also Jesus in the New Testament. Like a computer program that malfunctions, you trash it and if needed, buy a new machine. So too people will be discarded (it says). Oh well. Why get worked up about it though - are you thinking that you are among them? 🤪 But criticize it properly, using what it actually says, if you want people to listen.

Hey, believe it or not, there’s even a verse for that: test everything against what you know to be true. Almost like the Bible initiated the scientific revolution. Belief in magic was old, and eventually culture got better - but you are looking back with the wisdom of hindsight, and even then can’t get your arguments to match, sorry I don’t mean to be mean but it comes across as being true. Your anger is besides the point of logic.

Also… weren’t YOU the one who brought up the Bible into this conversation, not me? Yes there’s crazy shit in there, so maybe use that stuff rather than mismatching and negging and giving atheism a bad name by offering this level of argumention?

Learn from Jesus: forgive and let the past go, you’ll be so much happier that way. Leave it behind if you want to, no need to allow it to cloud your vision any longer.

unlike so many others in the regions nearby.

Irrelevant. The lesser of two evils can still be fucking evil, and we fucking know better.

Also, why leave out the closely related verse “husbands, also submit yourselves to your wives…”

Because it doesn’t say that, scum fuck.

Jesus neither invented nor embodied the golden rule.

              Can you read?

Money is essential to live, but the LOVE of it is the exact opposite, and I stand with Jesus and whoever says so (the Buddha I believe may have uttered thoughts along similar lines… Zen).

So you admit the point you tried to make about paying workers is completely null and void?

And no, justice in the Old Testament did not mean that - that came later, and iirc wasn’t so much called by justice.

              Because god is abusive.

In the OT, it was rather an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, and unless I miss my guess, most passages talking about justice like that mean like administrative people, as in judges (and mayors and the like) should not accept bribes. Because god is abusive. Jesus frowned on anyone who didn’t submit to Jesus even when he was wrong. Stupid, deadly shit.

              Fuck yourself to death.

The burn in hellfire forever thing was also Jesus in the New Testament. Like a computer program that malfunctions, you trash it and if needed, buy a new machine.

So god is not all powerful? Or he chose to make things shitty?

              Dumbfuck.

So too people will be discarded (it says). Oh well. Why get worked up about it though - are you thinking that you are among them? 🤪 But criticize it properly, using what it actually says, if you want people to listen.

No, cuntbag, I care because real human beings on the same planet as me use this cancer to make their decisions.

Hey, believe it or not, there’s even a verse for that: test everything against what you know to be true.

And it is true that there is no god, evidently.

Almost like the Bible initiated the scientific revolution.

              Wrong. Stop stealing credit.

Belief in magic was old, and eventually culture got better

Evidently not, you still put your faith in a wizard.

but you are looking back with the wisdom of hindsight, and even then can’t get your arguments to match

My argument is very simple: I believe there is no god because no one has shown me evidence or reason to believe there is one.

sorry I don’t mean to be mean but it comes across as being true. Your anger is besides the point of logic.

I’m angry because your baseless bullshit is getting innocent people killed. Dumbfuck.

Also… weren’t YOU the one who brought up the Bible into this conversation, not me?

Yes there’s crazy shit in there, so maybe use that stuff rather than mismatching and negging and giving atheism a bad name by offering this level of argumention?

Atheism is correct until we have evidence for god’s existence.

Do you have evidence, or just condescending dipshittery?

Learn from Jesus: forgive and let the past go, you’ll be so much happier that way. Leave it behind if you want to, no need to allow it to cloud your vision any longer.

No, fuckface. Learn from reality. We can’t undo the past. My parents abused me because they believe in god, and FUCK YOURSELF TO DEATH for encouraging them.

              Murderer.

The excuse your parents used was their religion, while the excuse you use when you abuse others is your anti-religion. The two share a lot more in common than they differ.

The baby making cult is truly deranged and creepy.

All that societal messaging is about one thing - ensuring our capitalist masters have enough workers.

The more of us there are, the weaker our bargaining power and the greater their capital assets are valued over labour.

The best protest is to not reproduce.

It is always about having new children, it almost never is about adopting existing children into a loving home.

Why create new life when there is already plenty of kids existing who needs care and love?

This is just like atheism, a lot of atheists are far more sensitive toward the actual meaning of religion than religious people, I have seen plenty of religious people who don’t seem to care about the actual religion, just the traditions or looking good, while atheists are more careful about not wanting to misrepresent/insult the religion.

Same here, the childfree people have already made their choice based on facts and beliefs, the opponents have not.

Why create new life when there is already plenty of kids existing who needs care and love?

If we are talking about adoption then no there is really a huge shortage of young kids to adopt in just about every first world country. The vast majority of adoptions are between family members. The vast masses of parent less kids and orphanages that used to exist have disappeared with widespread use of birth control and abortion. There really aren’t that many kids being born in the first world anymore that are unwanted. This forces many who want to adopt to turn to international adoption which is incredibly expensive and also has constant scandals with some source countries turning it into an unethical industry with malevolent actors seizing kids from parents for made up reasons. Scandal after scandal has made more source countries outlaw international adoption which is furthering the undersupply. Many prospective parents spend years and years trying to find kids to adopt.

Now if we are talking about older kids that have been forcefully seized from their parents there are lots available even domestically. But these come with a lot of problems as they are often from broken households and sometimes have a history of crime and drug use. Very commendable to adopt one of those kids but it’s a whole other beast than raising a child from a young age. In some countries such as my own you dont even become a legal parent when you adopt seized kids like this. They are officially under the care of the state and you are just a contracted caretaker. Can’t even call yourself a dad or mom.

Ah, thank you for correcting me, I didn’t realize the situation had changed that much.

You are also right about when the government has to step in and remove a child from a bad situation, not everyone can handle that, I realize that.

I am sorry for misrepresenting the situation in my earlier post

you got any sources for any of that? Cause that sounds like an interesting read

Also something ellse Ill add is that if breeders actuallt did care about unadopted minors then they would have made a substantial push to make international adoption easier and more common. … this push has never been substantiated thus proving to me that most breeders , and most humans to be honest, are perfectly OK with the current disgusting status quo.

Some sources but you can find countless articles about adoption scandals. International adoption is a very murky business. https://digitalcollections.sit.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=3550&context=isp_collection

          https://www.theguardian.com/news/2021/jan/26/chile-stolen-children-international-adoption-sweden

that if breeders actuallt did care about unadopted minors then they would have made a substantial push to make international adoption easier and more common

That’s not the call for adopting countries. Like how would that actually look like? The US putting pressure on third world countries to let the US adopt more of their children? That would be absolutely insane. Opening up for international adoption is 100% the call of the source country. Every country has the right to their own children first and foremost.

I myself seriously considered adoption as an alternative to biological children because I saw adoption as a great charitable act that would give a good life to a child that otherwise would live a miserable life. Of course I would want that! But after learning there is an undersupply, it’s extremely expensive and it’s likely to be moral problems with the adoption itself, I decided against it. Even discounting the fact that the child may have been stolen from its original family, the mere fact there is a large undersupply means that if I adopt it just means someone else doesn’t get to adopt. As I have the ability to have biological children that’s what me and my partner decided on. Because who knows we may be taking a child away from a couple that couldn’t have children, because of infertility or because it’s a male gay couple. That’s when I realised adoption is not a good and charitable act. At least not in the modern world.

…Who cares about international adoption ? (also when it comes to the case of international adoption it is up to the people in each country to put their representatives in a tighter and tighter vice grip until they make it so that international adoption isnt as messy and corrupt as it currently is. OR it is up to the people of each country to set up their own grassroots , thoroughly investigative, and publicly-accountable third party international adoption organizations. If your government wwants to be complete idiots ? Then its time for you to do the governing when iit comes to that particular institution. Almost ALL cointries can be a ‘source’ for an adopted child. Thhe majority of wanna be-parents of all countries are guilty of allowing international adoption to become as disgusting and disordered as it is today as I havent read of any substantial population of wanna-be-parents in ANY region taking substantial actions to clean up international adoption as much as possible.)

and why has thhere been no substantial puush to makke domestic adoption easier annd more beneficial by you breeders? Have any examples of thiis Ive missed ??..

You can make both international and domestic adoption as easy as it can ever be and it won’t solve the problem that there are too few kids to adopt. There are lots of people out there that want to become parents but can’t, either because they are gay or because they are infertile, or simply dislike the thought of getting pregnant and giving birth. And there simply are not enough kids that need adopting. You know the vast vast majority of parents keep the kid that they birth. If we go back a century there were lots of kids being born to women who got pregnant by accident (or by rape) and to avoid shame they often hid their pregnancies and gave away their baby to an orphanage or the state after birth. In developed countries this has become rare with both abortion and single motherhood becoming more accepted. This is really something to be celebrated. Developing countries used to have lots of orphans to adopt to developed countries to fill that gap but now even developing countries are modernizing and the amount of orphans in these countries are also going down. This is an unsolvable problem. You can’t enact policies that will increase the number of orphans in the world.

You have to remember that behind every adoption is a tragedy. No one is getting pregnant just for fun and giving away their baby.

Well, the number of kids in need of a new home is not enough to reach the number of kids needed to have a stable economy and prevent the economic collapse of an entire country. So this take is a bit naive.

And if everyone only adopted already available kids instead of creating new ones, guess what would happen after one single generation? 🙃

But yeah, it’s definitely not necessary for every woman to have children, to reach these goals. A woman’s body is her own and it is her choice. Even if there’s a baby inside her. ✊

Edit: the ratio of votes even though I’m on the side of the sentiment in the image. 😆👍👍

Are you implying it’s women’s responsibility to prop up their country’s economy by having children? If that’s so critical and important to these religious wackadoos, why don’t they do anything to help?

I realize I’m speaking to a rough crowd here, but the truth is that without children, there are no future workers, and no economy. Simple, basic fact. And men and women are both needed to bring up children in order for a country not to collapse on itself. It’s not too complicated. But of course, women are the only ones who can carry a child and give birth to it, so… 🫪 Not sure what to say beyond that.

But obviously, nobody is forcing women to have children in a free country. 👍

It’s a tough crowd because you’re saying that women are responsible for supplying the workforce of a country or the economy will collapse. Which ignores every major factor in that issue to somehow only blame women. Is the economy not the domain of our politicians? When people are starving do you yell at farmers about how they’re not growing enough food?

ACKSHUALLY the economy IS the domain of the workers. The problem that most people make is thinking that politicians and other people in politics like bribed economists who tell everyone that the poor should be forced to become poorer are the ones who should control our economies…when they obviously shouldnt. The average worker probablty knows more about what foods are native to a region (native crops or animals that have adapted to a region’s soil, climate, and other challenges) and what edible plants and animals can be grown in excess in a certain region to feed many starving people of that region. The people of a certain region should also be the ones who do research and ask researchers to determine if certain infrastructure or machinery is needed by the people of that region since the people living in that region, sometimes even living in that region for decades and decades, know it the region best. WE The People should control each of our economies.

And also about farmers, the farmers in most countries actually DO currently hold a lot of power over how much food costs and how much food we have access to https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp11jvYE408&pp=ygUTYmFkZW1wYW5hZGEgZmFybWVycw%3D%3D

I suppose you sincerely misread and misrepresented the idea that not every woman must give birth to mean no woman should give birth? It comes across as intentional distortion, a strawman to make your position sound more reasonable.

Birth rates are falling in developed countries, if we ever reached the point birth rates fell everywhere in the world it implies a level of world-wide civilizational development that I don’t think we’d even be worried about needing more babies anymore.

WTF do you owe an explanation to other humans as to how you plan to use or not use your body?

They are pro-birth and not pro-life. Pro-life means actually caring for other humans and their struggles. Make life better for all. Making a liveable habitat.

But they just want the R number to go up for either not enough of their own or not enough wage slaves in the future.
