I always hate the “[Person]'s Law” types of legislation. They’re well-intentioned, sure, but they’re also always, always rushed, knee-jerk overreactions that come out all hamfisted. If they want to legislate e-bikes, fine, but take the time to do it right.

Yeah, and it’s crazy that the push is to register them, instead of restrict them to normal bicycle or scooter speeds and human power limits. All of these e-moto’s getting called e-bikes is doing real damage to the future of personal mobility.

      Ding ding ding

These types of laws give politicians the chance to look good while doing nothing, especially not thinking about consequences

It doesn’t tell you anything either. So many named laws like this that are about all sorts of different things, how the fuck am I supposed to know what Gregs law is? Something to do with sausage rolls?

Very vague description. I’ll have to look it up.

But we don’t need plates and registration for everything. First, make streets more bike friendly so they’re not crammed in with pedestrians. And, enforce the rules that already exist.

That’s nuts; I don’t realize that. Is it actually enforced?

It just got passed this year, and doesn’t take effect until July. So we’ll see how enforceable it is. My guess is any e-bike that looks like a normal bike can probably get away with it, but will be subject to a fine if caught without registration. Since this hinges on cops a) caring and b) being able to differentiate an e-bike from a standard bike.

Time for stealth ebikes and regular bikes that look like ebikes just to confuse them.
