  • I swear, people either think it’s a wish granting genie or a worthless hallucinating scam. There is zero room for actual rational discussion. It’s either magic and perfect or the exact opposite and a curse. It’s either the coolest modern tech or an environment destroying disaster. Either we should invest all our money in it, or none.

This entire article is just “can’t you guys see it isn’t a magic wish granting genie!” I’m kind of sick of this side to the argument even though it’s mostly just people trying to fight insane push from board rooms, wanting everyone to adopt the tools.

I’ve been coding for decades, and I’ve been pushed to use the new tools, have, I’ve been a lot more productive in some ways, but I actually read every fucking line of code it produces. It’s not perfect but it has been useful. It’s not a wish granting genie, but it has helped me. And if it goes away I could give a fuck less and would go back to doing things the way I always have.

This bubble is gonna pop some day, and it’s getting there I think. But I don’t see AI disappearing after either. I do look forward to less icons on sites like ✨ “click here to use MAGIC” like no motherfucker I don’t need a random ai helping me write a description for a calendar event, fuck you

  • If you’re going to mention Zyn flavorings, you’re grasping at straws. They’re using food grade flavorings. Might as well say chewing gum is dangerous and under regulated at that point.

There is literally no reason for them to scare people with weird flavorings that could be dangerous. They already have a well used addictive product. Nicotine and food grade flavors is plenty to make something that people get addicted to and use.

It’s simply a less dangerous product than tobacco. That doesn’t make it safe but ffs it’s nicotine plus food grade products. It’s practically the same as using nicorette gum, just not for the goal of quitting.

2023 review found most animal tumor-initiation studies did not show nicotine increasing spontaneous tumor initiation, while tumor-progression results were inconsistent and hard to generalize

Smokeless tobacco is not “safe”, it’s addictive, may have oral/cardiovascular concerns, and long term data is limited, but cancer risk is likely far lower than chewing tobacco. Nicotine alone os not strongly established as cancer causing in humans, but biologically suspicious enough that “harmless” would be too strong.

There’s a reason the FDA is allowing Zyn to say there’s a difference now with “Using ZYN instead of cigarettes puts you at a lower risk of mouth cancer, heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis”. People would do better to switch to Zyn than smoke or use dip. They’d do even better quitting, but people should understand there’s much higher risk with smoking and using chewing tobacco.

As Americans we got so fucked by Fox News propaganda, that we have new generations growing up thinking they have to be communists if they want nationalized healthcare and affordable groceries, that it’s the same thing.

Right wing people believe it, and now some left wing people believe it, and they’re thinking they’re socialists just because they don’t want to go bankrupt due to a health issue… The rest of the fucking western world is not communist, yet they still have free healthcare and take a month or two off a year.

I have been saying for a long time, there’s a lot of people here that hate capitalism and think they’re communist because they’re just suffering a uniquely American version of capitalism, and we’d be so much fucking better off with literally just nationalized healthcare. We just don’t want to be terrified all the time, and feel like we’re seconds away from death and poverty. This is uniquely an American capitalism and it’s usually not this fucking bad.

  • Dude the cybernetic shit is the least likely thing and even if it worked well, the worst thing to get. It’s always a trap, even in the fiction.

You like upgrading your phone? Being spied on? Spending thousands on a device that is designed to break every few years so you buy another?

You want your fucking limbs to be like that?

The best cybernetic limb would interface perfectly with your body. It wouldn’t need outside energy, and use energy from food you consume. It would give you an interface you’re familiar with, because you spent years learning how to use what you have. It would heal wounds on its own, not need repairs! It would perfectly relay sensory information to your brain as your existing limbs do. It would use nanotech to repair itself. It would be trainable, get stronger as you use it more. It would adapt to how its used.

…all of that is what biology is. Biology is inherently the perfect cybernetics after millions of years of evolution.

The only reason to ever get cybernetic limbs is because you lose limbs or aren’t born with them, disabilities and such. It will be that way for a long long long while. Games are extremely unrealistic about this. Anything you’d want would be closer to genetic modifications and biology than cybernetics.
