It’s extremely difficult to find a dumb tv in sizes larger than ~55”. You really don’t have much choice at the moment. I personally host a jellyfin server and play that via apple tv over hdmi, but content recognition still does its thing. Best i could do was deny wifi/ethernet to the tv and have no open networks.

The general theory is that musk dislikes any public transit that decreases car dependency. My personal feelings are more along the lines of “rich dumbass doesn’t like ideas that help the poors”, but obviously that may very well be cynicism on my part.

For some background: I am a hardware and sysadmin junkie. my server rack is a homelab for learning and reinforcing skills around systems administration, virtualization, and now kubernetes. All this bad faith behavior on lemmy is killing my ability to focus on learning, and mastodon has nowhere near the same number of bad actors. Not sure what it is about a link aggregation service that attracts these people.

If things continue the way they are, whitelisting federation or shutting down will likely be our options.

Keeping the hardware happy is easy and fun, but moderation is nearly impossible. Also the waves of reactionary argumentative users from instances with open sign up are getting out of hand.

I’m about ready to switch to whitelist federation personally, but would need to build said whitelist. I will monitor and see where beehaw goes from here, because if our moderation team agrees, we will probably take similar action.

Very odd… i multitask and run both paravirtualized (arm) and virtualized (x86) linux and windows without issues. You are more likely on the base model and out of RAM.

Intel macbooks deserve the hate, but the apple silicon ones are genuinely impressive to the point of being worth it until the competition catches up in terms of ARM performance, especially in terms of battery life.

My lemmy server is selfhosted (pawb.social), and the running costs are pretty negligible after initial costs.

We get plenty of donations honestly, but that is obviously not universal.
