killea@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Israeli government official arrested in Nevada in internet crimes against children sting51·13 days agoIt’s just funny that: they had enough to charge him with a sex crime (luring a child into an act -along with eight other people in a sting op), no diplomatic visa, just the head of cybersecurity. And they tapped his wrist and let him go. With shit like this, maybe they cry about national security. Yea we know! That guy working for you is a serious threat to it!
killea@lemmy.worldto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Kremlin brags about US jets escorting Putin’s plane after Alaska summit8·13 days agoIn a world of people in charge flouting the rule of law and order, and even basic universal morality and reality, I see this as a completely reasonable course of action for Zelensky.

killea@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Trump says he’ll seek ‘long-term’ control of DC police and signals he’ll target other cities next33·16 days agoAh, so laying clear obvious groundwork for martial law. I can’t wait for another slew of news articles somehow soft-balling this whole issue.

killea@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Google tests ‘script blocking’ in Chrome Incognito to boost privacyEnglish23·16 days agoYep, noscript on firefox has been available for like 15 years. And it certainly does “break” some sites as it blocks scripts by default. It can be a pain, though I consider it the safest way

I thought I heard earlier today that they don’t have any serious legal basis for this, so I’m curious how it will go.
killea@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•On average, we sleep 8 hours a day; I’m 48, and have slept for 16 years.7·21 days ago8 hours a day would amount to one third of our entire existence.

killea@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Trump fires commissioner of labor statistics after weaker-than-expected jobs figures slam markets22·28 days agoThat’s just it though. These folks seem IMPOSSIBLE to get through to. Though admittedly my experience may draw from some of the lead-alzheimer’s cadre of boomers. I mean they spent fuckin decades making sure they had a poorly educated group that would VOTE, with the added bonus that so many of them were surreptitiously ending up brain damaged as well.
I really wish I knew how to help these people. I’ve been compassionate, patient, understanding; and I’ve also brow beat the shit out of em, gotten in screaming matches (not too often, but they tend to respect a level of violence). And it tends to have little effect. It’s the part of this that vexes and hurts me the most, and why I can’t help but feel this will only be rectified with chilling violence that none of us want and are ill-suited to execute. Ugh.

I should have known I’d be downvoted for that. Was just hoping folks would figure out that I was decrying lobbying but I guess I gotta explain myself better.
But yea, legitimate democracy is kind of a pipe dream outside of ancient Greece. I’d say people in the United States live under a crony-capitalist dominated representative republic. I wish we lived under a socialist-capitalist representative republic with short term limits and built in incentives for education and voter participation. We can all have our dream.

Of course he will; they coordinated this together. Now I’m not claiming I have proof of this, but tell me this doesn’t smell 97% probable.
Eight year olds, dude!
