  • I work with a lot of industrial machines that use all sorts of weird old computers most have been running pretty much non stop for 20-30 years. HP unix, Irix, solaris and windows NT are the least obscure computers I come across. Every week it seems like i run into something new (old). We have a few running on PC98s with a weird english version of J-DOS, computers with RTOS’s like QNX and LynxOS and probably some other shit that i have yet to encounter.

Sadly newer machines just run windows or in a few lucky cases linux. The IT department always trys to manage the windows machines hooked up to the network and breaks them with their anti virus spyware crap.

  • Its fucking impossible to get new kids to read the manual. They just resort to asking others for stuff they could look up. When I was new I asked the old timers as a last resort. Not because they’d be mean about it, but because I know I wouldn’t learn as well just being handed information.

  • A few years ago we haf these stupid mandatory AI classes all about how AI could help you do your job better. It was supposed to be multiple parts but we never got passed the first one. I think they realized it wouldn’t help most of the company but did leave our bespoke chatbot up for our customers/sales people. It is pretty good at helping with our products but I assume a lot of tuning has been done. I assume if we fed a local AI our data we could make it helpful but none of them have more than a basic knowledge of anything I do on a day to day basis.

  • Mine once fell out of my pants while I was sitting at my office chair. It ended up perched on the bar that connects the seat back the seat bottom. There is a 3 inch gap between the back and the bottom otherwise. It took me a week to find it, and right before i was about to cancel everything. I only found it because i bumped the chair and it jiggled free.
