astutemural@midwest.socialto Science Memes@mander.xyz•Remember to 2FA your kidneys.English3·2 days agoUsed to agree to this, until it turned out that SMS basically doesn’t work in rural areas.. Theoretically you can get a voice call with the code, but I’ve personally ran into instances where the 2FA voice call simply doesn’t work on landlines. If we’re going to do 2FA, it has to be something so universal anyone can do it. So far, I don’t think we’ve achieved that. I think people have a right to access banking services, etc, and if 2FA doesn’t work for them, we’re deciding to ban them from using those services. Doesn’t sit right with me.
This has ‘management’ stamped all over it.
“Every one of our products MUST have a picture guidebook!”
“Wait, but product ___ is literally just a hinge.”
“Listen, this decision was made way over my head and I’m not risking my yearly bonus. Just do it.”
astutemural@midwest.socialto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•In Norway, laser weapons are being used to remove sea lice from farmed salmon. The Stingray Laser System uses cameras to scan the fish, identify lice, and then deliver a laser pulse to kill them.English98·5 days agoMFW people invent laser weapons to shoot parasites off penned animals instead of just not eating fish.

You’re right, it’s just that sometimes the people working at or owning the store are several-decade-old children.
Not everywhere. Some places have them behind the counter because the owners are terminally Puritan-brained.
astutemural@midwest.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•Transgender, nonbinary and disabled people more likely to view AI negatively, study showsEnglish24·8 days agoI mean, would you not want to do this specifically to see its effects on marginalized groups? That seems like a pretty good reason to me.
astutemural@midwest.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•It's 2025, the year we decided we need a widespread slur for robotsEnglish1·8 days agoYes. We do this literally every day. We pay taxes on what we earn to support those less fortunate. We share with food with coworkers and tools with neighbors. We have EMTs, firemen, and SAR who wilfully run into danger to help people they’ve never met. It’s literally the foundation of society.
astutemural@midwest.socialto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Every support thread on Reddit is literally this nowEnglish7·8 days agoI used Redact a while back. Super easy. First replaced everything with filler text, then deleted. Just in case mods have auto-rollback for deletion.
So this is obviously saitire, but it gives me a bit of an SCP vibe. Like a Ronald Reagan Cut Up While Talking vibe.
