IronicDeadPan@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Apple Has Sold Approximately 200,000 Vision Pro HeadsetsEnglish171·2 years agoHas anybody seen the movie WALL-E?
It’s probably a bit of a stretch, but I feel like this is somehow the genesis/precursor of the hoverchairs that all the adults use for everything.
(God, I hope not.)

It’s a pretty successful Disney movie from the last 20 years, there was never a chance that would work.
IronicDeadPan@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Putin declares 1867 sale of Alaska to US illegalEnglish43·2 years agoPutin will probably just pull some more strings or use whatever leverage he supposedly has against Trump, so it ends up with Russia getting Alaska back with some form of a federal government payout too, that will be doled out to the working class in the form of a tax increase.
IronicDeadPan@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•The media controls on my car. Previous and Next are Up and Down. Volume Up and Down are Right and Left.English4·2 years agoBecause it’s not that easy, unfortunately. The 5-way switch (d-pad with center button if you will), is molded into a shell. That shell is what sits in the cavity of the steering wheel. Even if you removed the switch from the shell, you still have to deal with the wiring inside, behind the switches and contacts, and the fact that the d-pad and the shell are formed in a way to only allow installation one way (as in there’s notches or grooves that will only let the switch sit in the shell at the “correct” position).
Hope this makes sense. (I’m a former automotive technician turned training/warranty coordinator)
IronicDeadPan@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Putin declares 1867 sale of Alaska to US illegalEnglish567·2 years agoMy first thought is all the maga people are going to run up to Alaska to “defend freedom” from Russia.
I then realized that probably won’t happen because they’ll only listen to what Trump tells them to do, so they’ll sit back and watch as the USA is reduced to 49 states.
In their eyes, you can’t spell RUSsiA without U.S.A…

Like BMW and Tesla having “creature comforts” behind subscriptions.

I was about to reply asking where the 7th needle is, then I noticed it’s black and in her left hand, between her thumb and index finger, while the other 6 needles are tan.
I know the word doesn’t make sense, but that’s still a pretty funny coincidence (“rhought” kind of sounds like “Rott”-weiller)

IronicDeadPan@lemmy.worldto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•Chick-Fil-A staff in the rain.4·2 years agoI agree with you and I live in Florida. I’d rather deal with the drive thru for the same reasons you listed.
Also, I won’t have to deal with trying to buckle a 2 & 4 year-old out of and back into their car seats, especially when it’s raining and 95*F. The 4 year old has ASD and refuses to be helped into the car so they throw a tantrum in the rain, and the 2 year old loses their mind just because.
There are things that people who don’t have/want kids can’t understand, and it’s an argument not worth having.

I don’t know why, but “mechanical turk” keeps cropping up when I think about this sort of stuff.
