There was an interesting thread on reddit a while back about the loss of presence. Apologies for the reddit link, if you don’t want to or can’t click it, the thread basically is discussing how certain older headsets (OG Vive, PSVR) have a “presence” that seems to be lacking in some modern headsets, how the feeling of “being there” is getting somewhat lost. As someone who has an OG Vive (and has never used any other VR) and is considering getting a Frame, how would you say it does in this regard (and any others, if you’ve reviewed it anywhere and want to point me to it)?

Apologies, I only just now saw this. The recipe I used for this pizza is below.

Tomato Sauce (makes enough for four pizzas)
One 28-oz can of San Marzano whole peeled tomatoes
3 tbs tomato paste
1 tbs olive oil
1 1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp dried basil

Cheese
2 oz fresh mozzarella, thinly sliced (can use more if you like)

Toppings
Fresh basil

Dough
258g 00 flour
50g sourdough starter (at peak)
162g water
5g sea salt
3/4 tsp olive oil

Instructions
Blend juice from tomatoes with other sauce ingredients well in blender. Add tomatoes and pulse to crush, leaving chunks. Refrigerate until ready to use, stir before applying

Mix all dough ingredients (except salt) in stand mixer bowl with dough hook
Knead at medium speed in stand mixer for 15 minutes, adding salt in about halfway through
Let sit for 15 minutes, covered
Do a final knead, 4 minutes
Round dough and place in container and cover, allow bench ferment until at least doubled (use spray oil on container to keep from sticking)
Punch down, re-round and put in refrigerator for cold ferment 24-72 hours
Preheat outdoor oven to at least 900F (~15 minutes on high) Stretch and top your pizza with the sauce and cheese (the pictured pizza was stretched to about 14" and feeds two comfortably)
Turn oven to low, place pizza in oven, close and allow ~15-20 seconds for bottom to firm up, then turn flame back to high
Turn pizza 1/4 turn, 15-20 seconds each turn until 360 is complete
Pizza should bake in around 90 seconds, being careful to turn as necessary to avoid burning near the flame
Add basil after the bake is complete

This is a great point and it does speak to the Fediverse being more resilient for sure. I still do not wish for numbers like Reddit has, somehow life uh… finds a way (to make everything shit).

This is the thing right here. Enjoy Lemmy as it is. There’s plenty of people here. The more people there are, the more it’s going to suck. Be glad Lemmy isn’t Reddit. I sure as fuck am. You run a server on a machine inside your house, it can be any computer on your local LAN/wifi, but it’s obviously best if it’s a machine that’s always on. I use a Raspberry Pi 3B+ (these can be had for about $50) that I have plugged into my wifi router and it’s running a little program called Kiwix-Server (free and open source). You download the WP file (it’s a huge single file with a .zim extension) and point the server to it and boom.

I have my Pi-Hole doing DNS for me so I just set up an easy to remember redirect, wikipedia.local. I did it more for independence. I got Home Assistant and Voice PE so I could have a local smart speaker to get big tech out of my house. I don’t do anything on the cloud, so it stands to reason that if I want to make sure I always have access to rudimentary information, having my own version of WP is nice. I also just think it’s kind of cool and it never begs me for money.

No, that’s exactly what I did, I’m running kiwix-serve, but I’m not going to bother updating it because I’m really worried about information degrading now that fascists are basically calling the shots on everything (and WP’s jackboot co-founder has a hard on for it). If I feel enough time has gone by to warrant an update I’ll just do it manually.

I now browse Wikipedia. Please don’t screw me over Wikipedia, I donated five bucks to one of your nags once.

For anyone who doesn’t know, you can download Wikipedia and host it yourself! I got the top 50k version (~7G) on my RPI3 and now no matter what fuckery they pull or the government pulls, I’ve got a pretty decent source of general information.
