101·12 days agoI took a single fuse out of my 2023 chevy bolt and it disabled all that shit. There’s an onstar module behind the infotainment screen that appears to be pretty easy to disable if you want to keep gps and thus location-based charging active. I personally don’t care about that, so fuse was plenty.
It’s also just a very basic vehicle overall, with physical buttons for most stuff (so touchscreen doesn’t get used much while driving), which I like coming from a 2012 honda civic. The only real modern thing it seems to have other than infotainment is the backup camera, and that’s a decade old requirement already.
Also, if it matters to you, chevy bolt runs on open source software. You can audit it right on your dash panel, if you so choose.
Edit: looks like there’s a fork of openpilot for it as well for mostly self-driving? Idk if I’d trust that, but kinda neat. I thought it was a fork of the OS, but its not.

Technology@lemmy.world•“Has No Friends”: Amazon Is Keeping Amazingly Detailed Records on Its Customers and They Are Downright Insulting: Here's how to check yours.English
5·24 days agoMine is all about chickens, cats, and then a bunch of things listed as “extensive” indoor plant cultivation, climate control focus, food processing, etc.
Other than chickens and cats, it’s mostly a wishlist of hobbies I don’t actually have but have purchased supplies for through amazon, and then assumptions based on a couple brands I did buy (due to a friend getting the same, so we could intermingle the things, not because I liked it myself)
All in all, lol
I’ve licked salt licks. I grew up around farm/farm-adjacent animals, and I’ve always been very curious, so I’ve tried a lot of things my animals consume…
The flavored salt licks are fun. I genuinely understand why they like them. Especially of their diet is deficient. Bet they taste like magic if your diet isn’t just full of salt already.
For some reason that probably has to do with surface area, granulated salt tastes much much saltier than salt licks. So I’m not joking about them tasting nice, it’s a totally different thing to table salt.
For me it’s gone fast because I’ve been in a depressive fog and just haven’t done anything to distinguish one day from the next, so every day feels the same, and it flies by according to my memory.
Every day is the same bad news with different subjects and objects. Every day the same bad things happen, in different places to different people. None of it stands out anymore, it’s just a constant blur of negativity in a blender turning into a fine paste of shit to coat everything in awful sameness.

Games@lemmy.world•The PS5 hacking scene just took a big leap forwardEnglish
212·1 month agoSuddenly glad I’ve had no desire to play ps5 in ages.
I should look and see if theres better options for ps4, as well, since mine is currently in need of repair anyway…
Edit: I’m confused as to why this is getting downvoted? I don’t care about internet points, but I do care about being misunderstood. I’m glad because mine should be out of date enough to use this hack, and I should look to see if there’s a similar one for ps4 as long as it needs repair anyway?

4·1 month agoLayers, patterns, gradients, and screen printed art, mostly.
Lots of screen printed art. I’m a big fan of mashup designs where two or more IPs are mixed, like star wars and star trek mixed and represented as chibbi cartoons, basically just someone’s fan art on a t-shirt or sweatshirt, such that you aren’t really advertising any of them as its not immediately clear what’s even on it. Also just art I like. Tons of places to get stuff like that. I also have a lot of shirts with jokes and phrases and the like.
Layers are good if you live somewhere that isnt too ridiculously hot, plain or gradient base t (or one of the more basic screen printed shirts) under a contrasting over-shirt is good. Really opens up the options because basically anything button or zip works, patterns or solid colors, and the extra fabric layer hides a lot of imperfections.
I do a lot of thrifting, especially when I travel, because the variety tends to span different styles and eras and people buy stuff online that ends up there, but it takes a while to really build up the wardrobe that way.

23·1 month agoThis is why I’ve never really understood branded clothing. I won’t wear it, because it’s just an advertisement. Genuinely don’t understand how society fell so hard for that one. I get luxury brand show off for shallow reasons, but shit- and mid-tier brands?

71·1 month agoThats not… I feel like you weren’t alive yet when that transition happened.
Because CDs are objectively better in basically every way than VHS and cassette, especially for consumers. No more tapes stuck in the player, no more rewinding, no more randomly unspooled tapes, no more twisted ribbons, no more seeking static, no more heat warping, etc. plus cds take up less space overall, and you can easily use many-disc cd changers.
The market absolutely drove that transition, not manufacturers. VHS and cassette were still supported and produced for a LONG time after cds came about, because not everyone was willing to drop a ton of money to get their collection in a new format.

A better name for that that, one which I apply to myself, is “toxic independence”. It covers more issues, I think, because it includes people who don’t see themselves as rugged individualists, but just ordinary people surviving as best they can.
