Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Supreme Court rejects Epic v. Apple antitrust caseEnglish21·2 years agoQuoting whitehouse.gov: “federal courts enjoy the sole power to interpret the law, determine the constitutionality of the law, and apply it to individual cases.” The executive branch contains the police as well as the various other departments that investigate potential crimes and bring actions in court against those that commit said crimes.
Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Supreme Court rejects Epic v. Apple antitrust caseEnglish43·2 years agoSince this is the Internet and this sarcasm doesn’t exist, the serious answer is that the court systems (ideally) do nothing but enforce laws. That is their job, they should be the primary organization doing that job, alongside the police sometimes, and they don’t have any job aside from that.

Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•The Google Play Store Ruling Is Bad News for Longtime Android Phone UsersEnglish11·2 years agoPretty sure early Netflix was competing with outright piracy, so they had to keep their prices down and their service convenient. Actually that is probably the best state for a digital market to be in, where there is a vibrant piracy community keeping companies honest with both their prices and services.
Because fuck the law when all it does is fuck me.

Not defending Win11 here, I’m never going to use it.

I for one don’t want nebulous corporations with questionable ethics and data security policies knowing and tracking my every movement. And while yes, I recognize that to a certain extent that is unavoidable in this day and age, I don’t condone it nor do I want it to be easy for them.
Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube isn't happy you're using ad blockers — and it's doing something about itEnglish241·2 years agoThey don’t just keep track of what videos you watch, they also keep track of what parts of those videos, as well as everything you search for and everything you begin to search for but never actually do. The method I (just now) thought up using to signal humanity was responding to accusations of being an LLM with a “fuck you”. The combination of vulgar language and defiance of the sycophantic tendencies of LLMs feels to me like a pretty effective proof of humanity, at least for now.
