This thread is like the Simpsons gag blowing dust off the book title “How to cook [for(ty)] humans”, except everyone’s an asshole and I also learned several things. Upvotes all around!!

zipsglacier@lemmy.worldto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•How to design a print with better tolerances – Slant 3D (12:34)English2·29 days agoThanks! I wondered about the glue stick trick, but I think you’re right that a taper would be better. I have to wonder why he didn’t say that, but maybe he was tight on time or some other thing.
zipsglacier@lemmy.worldto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•How to design a print with better tolerances – Slant 3D (12:34)English4·29 days agoThe part at the end about the fins is good, but too quick. He says put a gap under the fins, and that makes sense, but then how do they print? Are they small enough that they can basically just break away? I’ve heard ironing is the key to stacked, separable prints (like miltiboard grids). I’d that (a) necessary, (b) unnecessary but helpful, or © irrelevant for these fins?
P.s. while I was internet searching to try to understand this, I found a cute video of his from 3 years ago where he is explaining the same concept, but with less polish and less good vtuber equipment. Still neat, and neat to see how he has and hasn’t changed over time.

zipsglacier@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Deleting my certified banger of a comment on WomensStuff because I respect the rule172·1 month agoShout out to OP for recognizing the struggle and respecting the rule (I thought this was a 196 post at first!)
Men will lurk for years without ever commenting in some communities, and then (ITT) lose their minds when confronted with the possibility of a community they are welcome to read, but asked not to comment. Bros, you were already doing that!! Yes, it’s hard, that’s what this post is about. But you can do it!!
zipsglacier@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Deleting my certified banger of a comment on WomensStuff because I respect the rule5·1 month agoLol, I wasn’t going to chime in to this train wreck, but this is awesome. Hi Langara! I hope you learn what not to do here. Also worth noting: it’s easy, and good, to see how stupid the olds can be. It’s harder, by a lot, to see which new things are stupid in a new way (or newly packaged way). Good luck.

There are also lots of links out to other resources that cover the various items in more detail.
But I haven’t seen anyone mention how awesome that head image is! Take a closer look if you didn’t at first. I’d love to see an animation that wipes from design to completed piece.
zipsglacier@lemmy.worldto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•What are your go-to sites to find free 3D files to print?English16·1 month agoNone of the sites are completely free from enshittification, but printables seems the least bad. Prusa has a better track record with supporting an open community, at least for now. Bambu+makerworld is an example of a company trying to close as much as possible to lock people in. Now I can’t download without a login? No thanks.
I don’t think that really narrows it down, but this is certainly one of the math animations of all time!
This animation and explanation is really good!! The studio, which is guess was new at the time, was called Pixar. According to the credits, one of the animators there shares a last name with one of the mathematicians who developed this method (Thurston).
This is looking great!! One line is ambiguous: “From here, we can work towards an eventual 24.04 release over the summer.”
Does this mean work, over the summer, toward an eventual release OR work toward a release that will take place over the summer?! Either way is exciting, but one of those versions is astonishing.
zipsglacier@lemmy.worldto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•I finally own a "Kleinsche Bottle" :DEnglish13·2 years agoAlso, there are lots of KB stls out there. OP printed this one, and thought it was good enough to share (and I agree). So, it’s useful to know which particular one they used. And, if it’s not their stl, then linking is a way of giving credit to the stl author too. One more point: any issues or adjustments they made, for that particular stl, are useful to know (like they posted below, finally).
I see the OP did update with the stl below. But I wanted to post here to say it’s just good manners to add a reference for the specific stl of a print that was good enough to share.

zipsglacier@lemmy.worldto pics@lemmy.world•Sinéad O'Connor ripping up a picture of Pope John Paul II on SNL in 1992English38·2 years agoWild thing about this picture is that Wikipedia is basically the only permanent place it can be found. The post there says it’s from Getty, with a link, but that link is now broken. SNL sure isn’t letting this footage out. From the WP article: all the rebroadcasts of that episode use footage from the rehearsals, where she held up a different picture and didn’t tear it up.
Yep. If it’s 9:22:45, then rounding to 9:23 is more accurate than 9:22 anyway.
