Definitely. Let’s invest in healthcare so that fewer people have reasons to choose euthanasia

Because it’s a humane thing to do.
Victor Villas@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Air Canada's flight attendants are fighting back. This is huge for ALL workers.11·20 hours agoThat’s messed up. Perhaps I’ve been living in blissful ignorance of what porn ads look like.
“A lot of her body is being shown with no clothing visible” doesn’t register as evidence of porn because that’s a normal way to dress oneself. “And she’s making over the top acting faces” just puts her as an average YouTuber/TikToker.
Victor Villas@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Air Canada's flight attendants are fighting back. This is huge for ALL workers.5·1 day agoThere’s no joke, the word “huge” is to be interpreted at face value. There’s no pun either.
Still don’t quite get why would anyone think this could be about porn

Victor Villas@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Air Canada's flight attendants are fighting back. This is huge for ALL workers.16·2 days agoWdym? Why would it be a porn reference?
Isn’t being Canadian and caring about worker rights enough for having “to do with it?” Does a journalist need any special reason to talk about world events?
Victor Villas@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Air Canada's flight attendants are fighting back. This is huge for ALL workers.46·2 days agoThis is usually “enforced” through fines, since unions are institutions that can be held liable for these decisions. Ultimately unlawful job action might end up leading to lawful termination though, so it takes a lot of courage to do what they’re doing.

They were similar numbers, one was and still is 30% and the other was close to 30% nationally in 2004 (but for BC the benchmark was already >40% for example) but these numbers were not “linked”, they were close to each other - which was a good thing, hence why it was a good benchmark at the time.

The reason this hasn’t blew up is because it’s not as much of bombshell as one might think. Looks like you’re conflating two things: the definition of affordable housing vs housing affordability targets. The definition of “what is affordable housing” hasn’t changed, it’s still 30% if income.
CMHC updated its affordability benchmark which is its own separate thing it uses to track progress on affordability levels. It might sound the same but these are separate things. For example, we can still build projects that are in the “affordable housing” category but if whether we build enough of it is one of the factors in the hit or miss of the affordability benchmark set as the levels observed in 2019.

Homeowners can buy market housing or other types of housing, including affordable housing and community housing

how much people are jumping on the government bandwagon
hmmmmm
fires have been started by people during the ban… so what has the ban accomplished in terms of actually preventing fires?
Banning fires? Of course. Banning smoking and motor vehicles on trails and in woods? Absolutely.
You’re almost there, if only some more dots are connected
Victor Villas@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•How a woods ban to fight wildfires turned some Canadians into toddlers7·5 days agoOnly conspiracy nuts would entertain the possibility that this isn’t getting lifted whenever the wildfire risk goes down
I don’t consider Bluesky/ATProto open enough
No thank you, resetting the enshitiffication clock by choosing a brand new corporate social media isn’t enough.
I’d rather stick to a Canadian-hosted federated platform with lower switching costs / lock-in.
If it requires an opt in bridge, it’s not federation

I watch CBC Vancouver News everyday and even for a local edition they are dedicating time to point out the relevant facts. Yesterday they had a segment on the hugely high fatality rates of journalists and interviewees didn’t pull any punches, explicitly stating that Israel’s behavior is intent on getting rid of the witnesses of a massacre. They compared the death of journalists to other wars to show this is not “normal” or just “accidents”. Dare I say it was a pretty decent and damning report.

This is very suspicious.431·13 days agoIt’s provinces run by people who cater to rightwing nut jobs so there’s no conspiracy to uncover. The pattern is pretty clear.

They will appreciate a hefty contribution to a fancy retirement home though so I have a decade or two to save up
I think the dislikes are more likely related to your comment implying a false dichotomy between two ideas that can easily coexist: that we need better healthcare for better health outcomes, and that we need assisted death as a humane approach to end of life care when palliative options are insufficient for a dignified and worthwhile existence.
Might not have been your intention but it does come across a bit disingenuous.
