The US is owned by the wealthy, and they care about nothing but profit, but this type of accident is so easily avoidable, it shouldn’t happen anywhere in the modern era. Even the most exploitative and cruel entrepreneur shouldn’t be allowing workers to die in this way, even with a heartless perspective it is a cost that should be avoided for a business.

Pushing workers to the breaking point over time makes sense to me from the ‘evil employer’ perspective but I can’t see it doing any good to allow them to die this way. People won’t be so outraged over long-term disability from horrible conditions, but their sons dying is the sort of thing to push people to make lasting change.

In 7th grade a friend read that book for class, he was normally a very cheerful and joking sort of guy. After a few days of reading it he suddenly had the most serious and somber demeanor I had seen for a 7th grader.

If it was possible the entire company should be charged with negligent homicide and dissolved for these kinds of patterns, but they probably will get fined or pay a settlement, so it’s just a cost of doing business.

At my work place, with a shop full of dangerous equipment, 20 years ago a person was killed using a lathe and we still hear about it and have extensive safety procedures specifically because of that, and no one else has died or been critically injured since.

Many average consumers probably don’t specifically know what ‘spatial’ means, or what defines a computer vs a phone or whatever. People with too much money do spend 3500 carelessly, I have known a few of the types, and for the latest Apple technology I could see plenty of people buying it without even knowing what it really is.

They didn’t say it was reputable, just remarkable, which doesn’t mean it’s good or accurate, just that it has had a place in the media sphere for a while.

Well that’s the thing, the haters don’t think queers and non-white people are human.

She could ride in an anonymous tour bus, harder to track, she could even have a security convoy, and still save money and emissions. Billionaires are murdering us all, I have no sympathy for her or anyone with her wealth if they take private jets on trips that would take two hours to drive.

I haven’t seen anyone argue that the militants that attacked Israel aren’t legitimate targets in a war like this. I have doubts about the reports that they specifically targeted civilians more than military points or that there were orders to attack civilians. Even Israeli news has reported that many civilians killed on Oct. 7th were most likely killed by IDF.

I’m not forgetting that, I pointed out that multiple groups have been attacking Israel. Yes, resistance fighters have used terrorism against Israel and bombed civilians, I’m not condoning these actions, but the people fighting for freedom from Israel don’t have many resources at their disposable. Struggles against Apartheid and Nazi occupied France for example also resulted in civilian deaths.

But it’s not just Hamas being slaughtered, all of Palestine is targeted by the IDF. There are other groups besides Hamas fighting. And there is one side who is stealing land and killing record numbers of children and aid workers, and has been for decades.

Why do you think Israel was attacked to begin with? Do you agree with Israel’s reason for attacking but not Palestine’s? I would say the same but in regards to the attack on Israel.

Why would you choose Israel? They have already killed more civilians than Hamas has militants and has given no sign of slowing down, they have dropped over 20000 bombs, they aren’t trying to kill individual terrorists. Even people in Israel are turning against the IDF and Netenyahu.

I’m sick of hearing people say “there are no good guys” in this war, what does that even mean to you?

Unfortunately in the US many trans and trans-supporting people do view guns as potentially necessary. Glorification of trans murder is common among the right-wing here and they definitely are armed.

I loved Veep, it’s hilarious to me watching it now that basically any scandal on that show would be completely innocuous compared to what we have been dealing with since it ended.

I don’t have that experience, I’ve seen a lot of the same users many times. A lot of people come here as a first step into the fediverse also. I first heard of Lemmy.world after trying to find a better reddit alternative, I may have made an account, but found a different federated instance that was more to my liking.

I feel insulted every time Windows has some sort of pop-up or notification that is obviously manipulative, like making it appear that I HAVE to make Edge my default browser and putting ads for Edge and other Microsoft products on the lock screen disguised as ‘fun facts’. The people making these decisions don’t respect the autonomy of people, they want to force us into habits that benefit Microsoft to the detriment of the user.

It could be a difference in our countries, in the US we learn a LOT about the holocaust and Nazism, WW2, etc, so most people I know politically aware will go out of their way to assure you that they are not speaking about Judaism in general. Who are these ‘many on the left’ being antisemitic? I simply haven’t seen that, not any more than it might have occurred before this current war, which was rare. It doesn’t seem difficult for most to separate the actions of a violent organization like the IDF and right-wing Israeli officials from Jewish people in general.
