If they don’t know enough to do the initial setup, then I would worry about how quickly it would go awry after you no longer have access. given the number of users and the assumed criticality of the data, I would have a long conversation about what can happen and what their plans are

Will they need to install new software after you set it up, or just have user storage and maybe do system updates?

What will they be doing with it?

Do you have a backup storage location available?

How many users?

What kind of permissions do they want various users to have?

How critical is the data that will be housed on the server?

I actually don’t use the “tree” part of it at all. I don’t get it either. It just happens to be easier to wrangle into what I want than other options like sideberry.

for number 4, I use the tree-style-tabs addon and some custom userchrome css to get that and it works great. I have it set so that when you hover over the 4-pixel wide sliver that I leave visible (could make it transparent, I just appreciate the reminder that it’s there), it pops out to be 260 pixels wide. I wish it wouldn’t need that level of customization, but it does work.

I had a similar issue in my city. I had to talk to the human resources division at my organization, and they were able to work directly with the local transit agency to get me a physical card, but it was a pain, and it certainly wasn’t advertised as possible anywhere. It may be worth trying to call people and ask.

That’s not entirely true. I migrated my mastodon account a new instance recently. I lost my posts, but everything else transferred or I was able to migrate manually.

It depends. I use GrapheneOS to avoid Google as much as possible, not to be the most secure thing in the world. I use Firefox with addons for a much less annoying browsing experience.

That is certainly not the only reason why EVs are still so expensive. Raw materials for batteries are a large portion of their cost. Currently, the cost of many of these raw materials does not account for a living wage for miners or the impacts mining can have on miners and the surrounding environment, and still the raw materials cost is a large portion of the cost of the batteries. Sure, there could be some magic new battery chemistry that circumvents this issue, but it’s unreasonable to expect that. The previous data showing drops in car battery prices could keep going down, sure, but it’s more complicated than simply economics of scale.
