Maybe for short times, but I’ve heard about dogs getting paralyzed at the groomers’ from being put in a harness for too long. Veins get pinched. And that’s with a harness meant for dogs, not something improvised like this.

Feel free to leave it though! Mycology-noobs but still interested in what grows in the forest like me love to see stuff like this!

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The most remembered lesson from elementary school may very well be "Don't run with scissors!"
16·2 years agoNot in the curriculum, though a sister of a classmate actually fell while running with scissors. Permanently blind in one eye, and a lozenge as pupil. Indeed not something you forget easily.

Flemish here (aka dutch-speaking). We say first June, sixth November etc. English isn’t our native language, so M/D/Y is weird as fuck and completely illogical to us.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can flies recognize that I'm holding a flyswatter?
2·2 years agoThey also seem to lack vision straight above them if they’re sitting on a light surface. So if they land on your computerscreen or window when it gets darker, you can flick them and they won’t see you coming. This will only stun the things for a second, so be quick to actually kill them/pick them up and dispose of them.

7·2 years agoI spy a disturbing lack of racks and baskets and places to attach packs to go grocery shopping on your hybrid though. ;) Many city people don’t own a car (or only use it for taking their sports bike out of the city), so I guess they use their gas money for that. I wouldn’t know, I’m a one (utility) bike only person as well.

13·2 years agoWell, you’re right, this is a bike meant for transportation, not sports. Still counts as a bike though, so original comment is right too. Everybody in the Netherlands and Belgium has one of these (and if you wanna do cyclocross or bmx or fast road cycling, you have a second, third, … bike)
Then do this to computer-shaped instrument controller systems that have accounts that can not have passwords changed or the application won’t run. Or service accounts, so if you pop in after 6 months, nobody knows the current password and the IT guy only comes in 2 hours/week. And that was yesterday. And no, no contact information present…

Secretly? I thought this was common knowledge. Mine definitely demands worship and pets every day.

3·2 years agoI renovated a house from the ‘70s last year. We now have triple glazing instead of single panes, the roof and side of the house are inslutated, we got solar panels, water-saving showers, a greener water heater (would’ve loved to move away from gas, but my budget only stretches so far and the asbestos roof will have to be replaced in a couple of years), and soon the driveway will have its’ non-porous gravel replaced with pavers designed to let water through.
Global warming won’t be fixed by that, but if we all start making greener choices when we can I have hopes we can avert the worst.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a counter example for "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"?
4·2 years agoPreventive maintenance? As in, where you take your car in every year for an oil change so it doesn’t end up as one gigantic blob that gums up your entire engine or having your brake pads completely disintegrate, cleaning the lint out of a sewing machine, greasing your bike gears, …
I don’t speak Spanish at all, but I really wish more languages would adapt it. It’s so much easier to interpret a sentence knowing it’s meant to be a question or exclamation right from the start.
