Give him a break, he can’t remember if he told us before
To add to that- it’s nearly impossible to lose American citizenship against one’s will. If you were born a citizen or earned it later, you will likely remain a citizen until you die, unless you give it up.
Even Jefferson Davis died an American citizen.
If you really don’t like taking to people that much, try for remote work. Once I almost went a full week without hearing another coworkers voice.(I’m not counting Teams chats bc I actually have work discussions there and I can ignore them as needed.)
If that’s not possible, learn to lean into extroversion a little. If someone wants to chat, let them talk a bit. You could let them talk about themselves the whole time, extroverts love that shit.
Give it ten minutes and then tell them you’re on a deadline or something and need to get back to work. If you really can’t handle it at the moment, do that second part immediately when they start talking.
The key is to be polite and respectful, but still assertive. It takes practice to get that mix right, so try it with some friends if you’re not sure how it comes across.
And just throwing it out there - I know you said you’re not looking to make friends, but this is what 80% of “networking” really is; just making friends enough that they’ll be a good reference.
lol, island monkeys
I also like “crumpet munchers”
I ain’t seen you round here, stranger…
I’m confused by Belgium. Are they saying that English and Dutch are equally popular, or that the north half learns English while the south half learns Dutch, or is the shading like a percentage?
Also lol, nobody wants to learn Italian …
Ditto. Respect for anyone who not only knows two languages well enough to explain one in the other, but is willing to share that knowledge.
I’m more curious where these people all get RC Cola, I haven’t seen that stuff since the 90s…
I’ll agree on the wine front, but I also don’t care for wine much. Never developed a palate for it.
But liquor, very much disagree. If you’re one to enjoy a scotch on the rocks or something, there’s a huge difference in taste once you splurge and get the good $100+/bottle stuff. And the cheap liquor always gives me a bad hangover.
Essex is to the UK what New Jersey is to the US.
off topic but that’s probably the best line in all 8 movies
he probably hasn’t tried bc he thinks it’s in German
that’s the part that irks me the most about modern American politics.
30% of the current House and 51% of current Senators have law degrees. these are supposed “experts”; you’d think they would be able to write better laws…
bold of you to assume we were properly educated about the real world at any time in our American upbringings
I’m begging the question here but it’s an important point that the article is trying (not very well) to make…
Why does healthcare in the US cost 50% more than Europe, on average per person?
We take the same drugs, right? We have the same surgeries with the same equipment?
And that’s the cost we paid this year, without even providing coverage for the whole population.
one reason the costs are lower in Europe is bc govts over there put strict limits on how much providers can charge for services and prescriptions, which is something the US refuses to do. Healthcare costs in the US are made up by pharma companies depending on how much they think they can get away with.
LEED kinda works like that with the different levels. LEED Gold checks off requirements a, b, and c; LEED Platinum also includes d and e, etc. I’m not LEED accredited, though, so I can’t speak to the finer differences.
There is a new standard making headway called WELL Certification . I’m not sure the difference between this and LEED but I’d be interested to learn more one day.
It is, but LEED was kind of a flash-in-the-pan fad for tax breaks and hardly any developers strive for a LEED certificate anymore (exception I’ve seen is govt projects). the cost of LEED certification is too much for most developers to stomach.
Nowadays I mostly see LEED as an extra set of letters in a person’s email signature.
