I think it’s a good solution. To date, I’ve been on the fence about disabling downvotes. I can see the positive impact it’s had for posters who can be more confident that they won’t be downvoted into oblivion by others. But not having downvotes has been hard to get used to, it somehow makes upvotes seem less valuable
Will it be possible to prevent someone from subscribing to a community to downvote and then unsubscribing?

Some more notes on what is included in the 0.19 version. Personally, for this instance the ‘rewrite images to use local proxy’ feature for privacy and the scaled sort option for vitalizing smaller communities look especially promising

💯 - it’s not just in the communities you post in, it’s almost everywhere. Downvotes are increasing and engagement is decreasing. 3rd party clients will always support this, I think, so it may not even be possible to remove downvotes. I think I prefer the separate upvote/downvote count option, or make folks votes public like kbin.
Side note: Do you know that active user count in lemmy is based on posts/comments rather than up/down votes?
I think because the # of daily posts now is low enough that a lot of people just look at local, so they see content they don’t enjoy and downvote. Hopefully, it gets busy enough here to avoid that in the future

Hey, there are two ways to post videos:
1: In order to see the video as a thumbnail on the main page when you post it, you have to convert it to the .webp format first. There are some hosts like pornhub and redgifs that sometimes work, but I haven’t figured out why yet.
I use screentogif (https://www.screentogif.com/) to convert the video to .webp, then I upload it to catbox.moe, copy the link, and put it into the URL field when creating a post. Note that this will remove any sound. I have some more info on settings for screentogif to make it less choppy but it’s really getting into the details. Let me know if you want me to post what works best for me.
2: Just upload an .mp4 to catbox or redgifs and link to it from here. It will keep the sound but the thumbnail won’t show as a video.
Right now, this is the best we have. Note that some mobile clients like Sync and Connect do a better job at this then on desktop. If you’re concerned about folks’ experience, it may be better than what you are seeing on desktop.

six posts in 12 years vs 200+ and counting in several weeks… I think the biggest difference is that your posts get seen, if you weren’t early, lucky, or posting incredible content it was like -1 and hidden. Not everything works here either but it lingers around longer before being buried

maybe, do you have an example? I’m thinking it’s either that it hasn’t moved to 18.1 (check the bottom of the page) or that it could be linked to the redgifs page instead of the specific video
Thank you for this post and extremely detailed description of the process. I usually give up after the first rewriting of the prompt and just blame the loras and start over with different ones. Seeing how you worked through this has given me some insight on what I need to learn next. I haven’t even learned how to do the last three steps yet. Tremendously helpful
