  • In Cities Skylines for example, in the game itself you decide when you’ve won enough, there’s not a specific point when the game tells you you’ve won and you can stop playing now, so many players consider getting all achievements as completing the game. But some of the achievements are only possible to complete with certain DLC. An achievement “Make a Hot-Air Balloon Line” can only be done if you have the DLC letting you create Hot-Air Balloon lines, and so if you can’t do 30% of the achievements because of DLC you don’t have, the maximum completion you can attain without paying is 70%. In the prior format at times it might not be clear which achievements required DLC, including hidden ones. New scoped format is an improvement.

  • Played around with it on my desktop machine. Someone’s distilled variant of Qwen 3.8-27B-Q4_K_M, on a intel12700k + RTX3090 24GB is what I use.

I haven’t adjusted the reasoning down from very high but I mostly use it for trying tweaks to half-finished coding projects I’ve lost motivation to complete many years ago. I used it to develop a very simple JS-free personal website. I have secure shell which I can access from Termux or PuTTY, but sometimes I have the llama.cpp webui insecurely accessible online for one day at a time just for fun.

  • Hey, I’m aware I have my own biases. I’ve tried to describe the situation in a fair and reasoned way as best I can, based off the experiences I’ve had over the last 3.5 years, including before lemmy.world even started, your experience may differ from mine and that’s okay. I donate quarterly to the Lemmy devs and occasionally to my homeserver’s foundation, so please feel free to accuse me of bias in either way.

  • I get your point, and since this project has only been up for two years it’s not too much history being lost.

However, I also empathize with the perspective of the site maintainer as well. There’s a lot more chaff to be separated from the wheat with the deluge of vibecoded submissions. I think keeping a frozen record of the site might be best to provide a point-in-time snapshot of where human-based progress of decompilation has gotten to. Someone else can manage the sifting through the AI slop, because that’s not what the maintainer signed up for.

  • There’s no specific instance wide feud between the two or anything. At a high level, .world is just the biggest Lemmy server currently by MAU and .ml is just the oldest and flagship ones run by the main developers of the Lemmy software.

Now, the moderation philosophy between the two differs a fair bit, which is where the rivalries and the bad blood develops between users. On most general topics you’d see very little difference, but as soon as discussion touches the Russia-Ukraine conflict, anything negative about China, and the Israel-Palestine war, the mods on ml are aggressively one-sided in their moderation, and consider anything that goes against that perception as hate-speech against Russia/China/Palestine even if that’s not what you are saying. If you want an illustrative example, look in the modlog at the ‘nazi apologia’ comment I was tempbanned from !memes@lemmy.ml for.

Still, as community and instance managers, that’s their right. There’s significant overlap between lemmy.ml, lemmygrad.ml where moderation is more overtly this way, and hexbear.net where users like to communicate with image macros more in ways that I think most other server members find annoying. Some on world don’t like that so certain users crosspost discussions from ml communities onto world communities. Some users call the ml folks tankies for their disdain of violence committed everywhere except where committed by Russia, China and its allies. Some ml users (and many lemmygrad+hexbear users) call users on other servers libs for the converse reason, excusing or not pushing back hard enough on atrocities and oppression caused by Western governments. Some users like to generalize these characterizations to every user of an instance, it seems.

Aside from high profile defederations with ml or world and some servers for various reasons, refederations, redefederations between hexbear and other servers, there have not been any specific incidents that have caused .world and .ml to grow apart. I think it’s fine to let each server have its space.

  • Even if some kind of Blue tsunami manifests come Nov 3, and even IF Republicans reluctantly prepare for a peaceful transfer of Congress in Jan 2027, don’t stop the No Kings protests, don’t stop the resistance to ICE’s terrorism of cities and disappearing people into detention camps, don’t stop going to town halls to push back against Flock-style surveillance (including by other vendors) and AI data centres. Don’t stop calling and mailing your representative. The fight still continues regardless, every step we get will be through keeping the pressure on.

  • Good start, but time to also have a 2 year plan and start drafting Project 2029* if no Democrat has already.

The two most important questions being: “What concrete differences do Americans want to see in their lives compared to before and now?” and “How will we (extending to the whole world) create a system that prevents reactionary right-wing psycopath billionaire-funded culture war zone-flooding politics to pave the way back to fascism?”.

*Project 2029 seems to be a thing, but at first glance seems like a scaled down and focused effort on a couple issues, explictly not designed to be an all-encompassing vision as the Republican version was. I don’t think it goes far enough, so either it needs to have more sections added, or the Democratic Socialist and neolib organizations each start putting their thoughts in their own treatises to compare notes later.

  • I also advocate for incrementalism, but I do think that very progressive positions need to be staked out and anchored by certain members in Congress, to move the Overton window allowing more moderate Democrats to ‘make compromises’ and still land everyone in a better position.

For DHS/ICE, if Congress can’t herd enough cats to abolish them, they can hamstring anything they are permitted to do without a judge-signed warrant. They can also first cut the slush fund appropriated in 2025. If neither of those things work, they can change the purpose of DHS/ICE to go after employers who abuse undocumented workers or leverage restrictive visas against them, and help immigrants get visas instead of locking up and torturing them.

It’s easier to settle on the three improvement positions if the initial anchor is closer to the extreme.
