oh, I think we are in for a rude awakening within some reasonable timeline (10 years or less?). pathogen load on everything seems to be on the rise. 2016 reduced my already shaky faith in humanity. 2020 killed it.

shelters, especially after the covid shut in, have been inundated with surrenders and strays. they often come in malnourished and sometimes in very poor health. housing desnities are high, despite the best effors of the staff. its really, really bad in some areas.

if you have the means, please go to a shelter and either adopt or foster an animal. these animals are amazing companions and deserve so much more than to die in a kennel.

my house currently has two rescues (the most fantastic dogs you will ever meet) and we are looking to foster another to help alleviate the shelter load.

still going strong in the shelters near me (southeast-ish US).

there is a pretty nasty respiratory infection circulating around shelters right now. higher infection rates and more severe than the normal kenel cough. not sure if its related, but shelters seem to have been caught unprepared. :-(
