The problem with Linux is that you will always have to tolerate a nontrivial section of games being straight-up unavailable, of games breaking, running suboptimally and requiring hacky solutions to run, and the complete absence of first-party support from hardware manufacturers and game developers. It’s not suitable for HTPCs despite having terrific UI unfortunately.

Except that the spyware is so intertwined into Google’s products that many websites straight-up break without them. Google Drive won’t even let you download stuff with third-party cookies disabled.

No lie, I actually had to shift to Chrome from Firefox today. Some websites are straight-up broken on Firefox, while others load painfully slow (e.g. try arc.net on Firefox vs any Chromium-based browser). Not to mention the massive shame of Mozilla leadership treating its own flagship product as a second-class citizen in favour of “AI initiatives” or whatever the fuck those C-suites want to stud into their resumes.

We are not in want of such solutions, Lutris and other existing solutions are capable of making game-specific environments already. The main problem is having enough volunteers to painstakingly run, test and submit the exact dependency parameters for each game that makes it run correctly. Same will be the issue even if we shift to Nix or anything else. The problem is manpower scarcity, not lack of tech.

Huh? That game is among the least lively in its genre. Even Cyberpunk2077 NPCs were more immersive.

It’s a genuine shame because Edge could very easily become the best browser on Windows if only MS played their cards right. Resource optimization of this browser is terrific and it leaves both Chrome and Firefox behind in terms of speed and snappiness. All MS needs to do is make it FOSS, strip down the unnecessary bloat and ensure firsthand content blocking support, and it will be straight-up unbeatable.
