My gaming computer isn’t – as much as I would like it to be. There are certain things (particularly VR) that don’t want to work well in Linux.

We had a bad choice and a worse choice. So i said let it all fall. I’m a sociopath that’s fine with seeing minorities being brutalized and killed so long as I can maintain some kind of bullshit ideological purity.

Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis is a bacteria that’s really good at killing mosquito, fungus gnat, and black fly larvae. It’s harmless to everything else and it’s the active ingredient in “Mosquito Dunks”.

You can break up a mosquito dunk into crumbles and soak them in a pitcher of water overnight to inoculate it with BTI. Water your plants with it to inoculate the soil and it’ll kill off the larvae – I go a little further and sprinkle crumbles over the soil in my pots to keep them inoculated.

It’s my go-to for dealing with fungus gnats in plants and I’ve never had it fail.

It doesn’t require digging out a test strip or card, it’s impossible to misplace or not have immediately on hand, and it doesn’t scream “Hang on a second, I’m just checking to make sure you’re not trying to drug and rape me.”

I try to buy non-DRM downloadable media. If it’s impossible … I’ll buy it and then “obtain” the non-DRM version. I make sure I have a digital backup of physical media too.

Resiliency is incredibly valuable, and being in and working through tough situations is the greatest teacher for it. E.g. “I’ve dealt with worse, this is nothing.”

But there are definitely healthy and unhealthy ways to gain resiliency. Those tough situations should be a net positive experience, and a something gradually worked up to in a way that doesn’t cause physical/mental harm to one’s self – always in pursuit of something worthwhile.

I feel like a lot of young linux users aren’t getting the talk and it makes me sad. Nobody ever sat them down with a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and explained the life cycle of an IT professional.

They never learn the natural cycle of things: that at a certain age a lot of IT professionals undergo metamorphosis and transform into beautiful, sock-and-sandal wearing greybeards.

More so that sort loved the USSR: it provided the ultimate boogyman they could use to justify just about anything.

Accuse your political foes of being commies, and “investigate” them. Advance Christian nationalism by pointing at the “godless Soviets”. Need to get your political donors want some sweet defense contracts? – well we need weapons to fight the reds.

The USSR did the same thing with the “decadent west”.
