I’m sorry to bother you again, but I have a question regarding old.slrpnk.net

Other instances using the old. format, they have an expand button. So you can quickly see text posts or an image and see if it worth engaging with further.

I haven’t been able to see that in old.slrpnk.net. I’m wondering if there is a way to add it in the preferences or something that I’m missing?

That might have been true for some subreddits, but not all.

I’ve had people reply on pretty obscure subreddits years ago, on posts that were years old.

Awww man…I mean its kind of a good idea, but on reddit I’ve had people reply to 10 year old posts.

Its a weirdly nice feeling.

But I do think we’re in a data hoarding mentality and wish to preserve everything. I think it is important to let things go.

Edit: Though on the flipside, I do appreciate especially on technical posts, to go back and look up people’s answers/solutions to questions I have.

Even if the answer is no longer valid, perhaps the person who provided the answer can offer an alternate solution.

Two things, you were right; my misunderstanding was due to my failure to have an intuitive understanding of defederation.

What happened was that I signed on in lemmy.world to make a post on lemmy.cafe (through lemmy.world).

My second question: I tried all weekend to access old.slrpnk.net

But the site was either really really slow (like a page would pop up after a minute or two) or would just result in an error.

Is this a problem on my end? Or is something going on that should be sorted out soonish?

Yeah, as someone who is struggling to understand the concept of federation…this doesn’t help me at all.

I guess what its saying, if you’re on lemmy.world, you can’t access content on lemmy.zip?

Basically I am trying to understand why was I able to do that there and not at slrpnk.net. Is it something unique to lemmy.cafe? Something unique to slrpnk.net?

2. A very minor minor comment; one thing I don’t like about old.slrpnk.net & old.lemmy.world, is the site by default loads to hot posts. I found the active tab to be far more interesting; there is more engaging discussion that I can learn from. If perhaps due to a cookie setting or something, the site could default to the active tab; I (and possibly others) will appreciate it.

3. I know I said 2, but I’m still struggling to understand the concept of instances. So slrpnk.net is a separate world from Lemmy.world right? Can I engage in lemmy.world’s content or no?

Can you explain what you mean by added a quick exception?

I have the same problem on the same game due to the same hardware.

I came up with a bulky solution, which is to launch a script that disconnects my keyboard for a bit; just to allow enough time to launch DS2. Then it reconnects the keyboard so normal function is resumed

Can you expand on your solutions so I can see if its better?

No I totally understand the benefit of decentralization; however on the user end, I just want to consume content.

To that end, can I post on one knitting instance and that’ll reach all knitting communities on Lemmy? How do I get the most engagement, which instance is the most popular

(and by the way, knitting was a random example on my end, but I am surprised that there aren’t any active instances to what I would assume, is a fairly popular hobby).

So tangentially to the post, I guess the implied question is: when will Lemmy see another explosion in its userbase.

And to that…I don’t know.

I’ve been trying to get away from reddit for a while and the problem with Lemmy is two fold

1. Very minor: it requires me to unblock cloudflare when I’m using noscript

2. More major, I still don’t have an intuitive understanding of how lemmy works. On reddit if I was interested in knitting, going to old.reddit.com/r/knitting would be a good starting point.

I’m still confused about multiple instances, why bifurcate the community (are there multiple instances of knitting communities on lemmy?).

I (perhaps foolishly) consider myself slightly above average in terms of tech literacy; if I’m this confuse I do wonder how are others going to fare.

Just a reminder the Trump tried to organize a coup against Venezuela the last time he was in office (John Bolton, the national security advisor, said so in an interview)

It was a soft coup in the guise of that guy: Juan Guido.

He popped out of nowhere, months (maybe even a year) after Venezuela’s elections, with the US supporting him as the legitimate winner. And because the US does it, so do all the puppet European states.

It was really confusing episode to me at the time. Only when Bolton’s interview came out did it make sense to me.
