I really enjoyed this one. The bit where Pike keeps trying to walk out the door while the background music keeps playing is delightful.

I love Voyager’s “Alter Ego”. The social situation Marayna’s put herself in by the time of the episode is painfully relatable, and also there’s a luau fight scene!

I wish there were an art site you could sign up for that let you follow artists on the fediverse and vice versa, but took its UX cues from DeviantArt and Fur Affinity. Discoverability should probably be local-only but I think that would be OK. The separation between artwork and journal entries in the main feed is something I’ve put into my own single-user server, and it’s had such a good effect on my mental state that I would never use the fediverse without it. AO3-style tag hierarchies would be really cool too.

Another factor in Picard S2 was that the characters - through whom the show is telling you what it thinks - are from a future where those problems don’t exist. That made it feel to me like a lecture from a position of privilege. I really only realized this while watching Quantum Leap (the more recent show; I’ve not yet seen the original), where the characters live in the present day and tend to deal with problems that do still exist in their own time.

I know it’s a really ordinary thing to do, but the idea of people using micrblogging to find people, and not just to follow and talk to people they already know, will always be wild to me. The idea of scrolling through infinite feeds where every post could be potentially triggering (and 80% of them are just reposts anyway) gives me terrible flashbacks to when I was younger. Thank god there are people who can handle that and actually make meaningful connections to people that way.

That wouldn’t surprise me. The PDS handling both authentication and data storage makes it easy to get started quickly without needing to do backend work.
