If you follow politics, the recent deal between Biden, Democrats, and the Republicans gave Republicans everything they supposedly wanted for border security. They aren’t voting for it because Trump wants to keep hitting Biden on that issue during the election. It’s fucking insane.
I have that, too. One day I was riding on a road that is signed for 35 or 40 mph. My radar recorded someone passing me at 80 mph.
I will say the radar actually made me feel better in a way I didn’t expect - most cars actually do slow down as they approach. But I’m in an area where cycling is extremely popular.
I thought that data was already delayed by 15-20 minutes.
I was starting to wonder if Europe didn’t have insects, because the hotels I’ve stayed in (in Europe) that had them didn’t have screens for them.
LOL My employer wants us to come in at least two days every pay period (every two weeks). But, of course, we’re not all going to go in the same day - we can’t, there’s literally not enough space - so instead of calling in to meetings from home on those days, we’ll be calling into meetings from a cubicle.
WHAT IS THE POINT? They’re having a difficult time convincing us this is a good idea.
A little more backstory: We’ve been fully work-from-home since the pandemic began. They decided to renovate the building, so we all brought our stuff home and archived or destroyed stuff we no longer needed. So we’ve been work from home for almost four years now and things are rolling along nicely. It’s really difficult to argue that we somehow need to be in the office now.
I’ve never used Rust, but this definitely reminds me of my days running Slackware on my computers.

I know it now has dependency management, but I just couldn’t do it any more. I was tired of worrying about what was going to break. I started with Slackware in the 3.x days, too.
I switched my server to Debian, and I feel like I never have to worry about it any more. Laptop and desktop are both Kubuntu, but they’re going to go to Debian at some point in the near future.

A friend of mine wondered about that, too. It’s hard to understand what the NFL could offer Swift, given how much money she already has, and how much she’d lose if she somehow pissed off her fans with a scheme.
I’m pretty sure it would have unraveled or ended by now, too. They definitely seem to be into each other at this point. Good for them, I hope they’re both happy beyond their wildest dreams.

I have one of these set up for the dehumidifier in the garage - if the garage door is open for a few minutes, it turns off the dehumidifier. After the door is closed for a minute or two, it starts again.
The first scenario is basically what happened with the convoys in DC a while back. Every day, they’d drive down, drive around a while, and then leave. I live in the DC area, but don’t drive in DC often, but from what I heard, the impact was minimal.
I don’t know how many trucks were involved, but I do know those trucks are expensive to buy and maintain, too expensive to keep running them in non-revenue service like that for long.
I haven’t used Homekit, so I can’t speak to that, but I have had an ecobee for several years now, and it’s integrated into HA.
It’s not clear to me if your setup is “1 heating system for one room, and a second system for a different room”, or if it’s two heating systems for the same area.
In the first case, I don’t think it’ll work - ecobee is only designed to control one heating system. The remote thermometers just tell it what’s going on where they are, so it knows if that room needs more heating or cooling. If they do, then it fires up the HVAC to make that happen. You can tell ecobee which thermometer(s) to use to trigger the HVAC - at night, you probably care about the bedroom more than anything else, while in the day you probably care about the living room more. But it can’t simultaneously control two separate systems.
If it’s the second case, ecobee does, I think, have provisions for two stages of heat, so it’s possible you could set it up to use the second HVAC as stage 2. But I’m not certain about this at all. You might need an additional relay, I’m not sure.
But I think there might be an easier solution that doesn’t require a full blown second thermostat using HA, and this is what I do for our pellet stove (we have a main household HVAC, and a pellet stove for extra heat). Get something like a Shelly 1 and use that to trigger the second heat system. Then put in a temperature sensor - an ecobee remote sensor, bluetooth, wifi, Zigbee, etc., whatever works best for you - and with those two things, you can create a “thermostat” entity in HA, then use a thermostat card to control it. Assuming HA is running and it’s getting info from the thermometer, it works well. Of course you’d mostly access it on a phone or computer, not something mounted on the wall (unless you put a tablet on the wall to view and control HA, but that’s a whole different project).
This isn’t necessary for it to work, but I have a script set up that has logic such as:
[]If the outside temperature is above 50 degrees, set the thermostat to 50 so the pellet stove shuts down and doesn’t restart. (Don’t need it.)
[]If the outside temperature is below 45 degrees, set the thermostat according to the rules below.
[]At night set it to 70 degrees, during the day, 72.
[]If the outside temperature is below 32 degrees, set the thermostat to 78 degrees so the pellet stove stays running.

Are you talking about people breaking in and stealing them? While I agree that was a stupid problem, it’s quite a bit different than a remote hacker taking over your brakes while you drive.

A few years ago, Ford was offering an optional electric heating element in the cabin heater of their pickups, because it would warm up much faster than the coolant would (especially if it has a diesel). I wonder if they still do that, because it seems like a nice touch and something that could be used this way, too. (I haven’t watched the video.)

I hate the lane assist in our car, I had to shut it off. It kept steering the car back toward obstacles I was trying to avoid, like trucks with wide loads, potholes, and cyclists. I don’t know why anyone thinks that shit is a good idea. I’m sure driverless cars will make the same stupid mistakes.
