Another happy framework user. I have the AMD 13. The modularity allowed me to completely disassemble and clean/save the machine when my wife spilled an entire chai latte on a 1 week old computer. Fan can get a little loud, but the machine just works great and there’s a great community around it.

I can’t help feeling like Obsidian really missed the mark on their pricing here for hobbyist & home users. I can’t justify paying substantially more than something like iCloud or Google Drive storage when I’m using Obsidian to just sync some text and a few documentation images. Something like $1-2/mo would have been an instant buy for me, but at $8 it was worth my time to investigate other ways of syncing.

Same here. The NR200 has hosted my gaming rig for over a year now with a 5800x3D and a 3090. Airflow is reversed to pull air in the back and bottom and blow it out the top, with some thin noctua fans on the bottom intake to get a little extra airflow to the GPU. It’s a super capable and portable build. My brother did a near identical build with a 3070.

UPS has by far been the best of the delivery services for me. A year or two ago we had 4 packages stolen because the FedEx knucklehead put a package up on the doorstep in a very visible position that drew a thief onto our step. The FedEx box and 2 UPS packages hidden in a bush were taken as a result.

A few days later UPS came to deliver a soundbar that he couldn’t hide in front of the house. He waited for me to get on the doorbell camera and I opened my garage for him. He brought in all the other packages from that day too. Top tier service.

My company switched from UPS to FedEx in 2020. We get a stupidly good rate on shipping, but in exchange they sometimes leave packages worth several thousand dollars behind our office after hours. Was never a problem when we had UPS.

My aftermarket Openpilot setup does this with a camera pointed at the driver. I’m good about paying attention but apparently if it alerts too many times that you’re distracted it will disable itself until you restart the car.

Perfect analogy. I completely shill for both Bitwarden and Brother printers because they legit are just that good. When I find products like that they’re what I push to my family and friends because they “just work.”

I still miss my OG Pebble sometimes. My wife says her Pebble Round was superior for what she actually uses a smartwatch for vs the Apple Watch she now has. When her Round failed, support quickly - but erroneously - sent her a brand new Time Steel as a replacement. In the midst of us trying to get it swapped for a Round the company shut down. It’s always stuck with me that the customer service was so “good” that they burned through all their cash.

I’ve been on free Beeper since the summer and it’s my primary messaging app now. Support has been personal, quick, and far and above the support I get from a lot of paid services. I just hope they don’t run out of runway, because Beeper is the happiest I’ve been with my messaging setup since Hangouts. I gladly signed up for Mini yesterday and will be happy to retire the used iPhone 8 I was using to keep my Android # active on iMessage.

Per the Beeper CTO, evidently Beeper (cloud) isn’t using the Mac minis anymore for anyone who migrated to their latest bridge. It’s using the same solution, they just didn’t make a big deal out of it at the time. I’ve actually been on the new bridge since early November and haven’t had any issues. In my case the new bridge fixed an issue I was having with SMS forwarding from my iPhone.

A Comma 3 to run Openpilot on my Honda Civic. It’s lane keep / adaptive cruise control on steroids. I drive about 40 thousand miles each year for work, 46 miles round trip on “local” days. Having that level of driver assist on the highway makes a life changing difference. I arrive less fatigued and feel more capable of reacting to hazards. Their tagline is making driving chill, and it really has delivered. I don’t know how I did this mileage before Openpilot.

Yep. Essential healthcare worker here. Spent every day feeling like I was living in an apocalypse movie during my commute. Normal 30+ min commute was 22 minutes.

A bunch of companies seem to be implementing that version (not being able to paste the 6 digits). It’s just asinine and makes me think less of any product / company using that style.

Both. Verizon service at one of my offices is trash, but our family unlimited plan is ideal for just about everywhere else. I can’t beat the present pricing for the number of lines we have. My phone supports DSDS so I’ve got a physical Verizon sim as my primary and then a secondary esim that connects to T-Mo when needed.

Prosthetics. Costs are always blown way out of proportion because the media looks at just the device and ignores the professional expertise and custom fabrication work that goes into the devices. They also all like to hype that arms are “mind controlled” when they’re all using different variations of the same myoelectric technology that’s been around for years. There have certainly been dramatic advances as a result of better battery technology and 3D printing improvements to rapid prototyping, but what the media presents is typically very out of touch with reality. It’s even worse when you go from news media to movies and TV shows that set completely unrealistic expectations for patients.

I vastly prefer the RFID but several of the Homewood Suites and Hampton Inns I stay in each week are still magnetic stripe. I’ve definitely killed one. Used it to unlock my room, but then stuck it in a pocket with my magnetic headphone case when I went to workout

Ditto. I used Zenni for a few pairs but the frame quality is noticeably better on my Warby pairs. That said, I have a very high prescription, and Zenni did a better job on a lightweight high-index pair of prescription sunglasses than Warby did. The highest index sunglass option from Warby Parker still came out fairly hefty.

Oddly enough in this wave of people having issues mine has actually been working better than ever. Pixel 7 Pro / Honda Civic / AA Wireless. It’s been a month since I had a connection drop.

Seconded. I just used it this weekend to go from a 1TB drive to 2TB drive on a system with a single NVMe slot. Connected new NVMe in an enclosure, ran the copy, and the system shut down when done, I physically swapped the new drive in and it booted first try.

Same! Every time I deploy a new machine I look a the list of characters and pick one. It’s been serving me well for over 15 years now.
