Think that issue gets resolved quickly as no one really has the power in tenure anymore. If everyone only has a few years a cycle or two of stalemates will eventually lead to both sides having to work together or try and win the entire house.

Two terms for each position seems reasonable so you can be asked to continue or asked to leave. This allows you to run on a policy, implement it and then fix it or things that need to be tweaked and then get out.

I think the fact the EU steuggles as much as it does in the near future they would be at best a weaker China. Lots of bodies but sub par military capabilities. The benefit we get in the US is that we’d only need to come in as support and military guidance rather than sending a lot of troops. They will still suck at doing things as it will be military by committee so in cases with countries like Russia they will most likely defer to the US to just run things.

To be fair, i did cover the Fortran 95 spec in a weekend, but i was motivated to tutor aerospace engineerings as there were far more females there than in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

I set up tasks with priorities:

• A: tasks i am doing now/today
• B: tasks i am planning on soing this week
• C: tasks that need to be done but aren’t high priority
• D: tasks I delete if not done by the end of the month

I make sure all my tasks have a +ProjectName and if i have to deal with a @SpecificService or @EmployeeName i note that. I will also add in things like jira:StoryNumber or other data.

Due dates are rare, only when there is a hard stop. End of a sprint is not a hard stop. If i need to remind someone I’ll use due date and @Reminder

100% of the time all tasks go in my list. Nothing is left for me to remember. It goes into my list before it ends up in a Jira ticket or Conflience page. Remind me first, everyone else second.

First thing in the morning i process my list. Move tasks to A. End of the week at the end of the month I delete all the D tasks.

As for notes, i use vimwiki with automation to compile into html when files are written. I’ve also setup coworkers with an automated process using pandoc to go from markdown to html. Then i have a little a bookmark on my browser to pull it all up nice and pretty. I’ll post the scripts later, not at my computer.

Daily diary entry made every morning when i do my todo list prep, entry for each meeting. Add notes dueing meetings and links or other details when looking for solutions to problems.

Inter-country commerce is often done in US currency if ones own currency is extremely volatile. Nothing worse than trading in something else and before you convert to your local currency the value drops out.

Soon systemd will include a feature where it replaces the user and does all the computing for you.

The big difference here is there is already this “learning curve” about the whole fediverse that people were struggling with that many of us wrote blog posts and had toot chains we’d forward explaining how this universe works. Adding in links and screen shots and templates for how to submit a bug…

…I hate saying this but the vast majority of people are just lazy. It’s not a culture issue or not something too difficult. People like to complain and not put in effort to things. People expect others to do things for them and don’t get that free comes with a cost.

FOSS isn’t really that small, it’s just that most people don’t do any type of investigation into what they use for technology. Much of what you use may have a for-profit company in front of it but huge parts of their products are open source andnyou can directly influence the products by actually engaging the projects themselves.

When the last big Twitter migration to Mastodon occurred there were a lot new users complaining about things like documentation, bugs, etc. Old users and FLOSS supporters kept pushing the “its open source, write a doc or fill out a bug ticket” and evem included documentation on how to do those tasks.

Most people just continued to complain. /facepalm

This was the only rehearsal dinner at the restaurant in the 4 years I worked there. Big tourist area, lots of people got married there but never saw something like that.

Lots of other weird stuff happened at resorts I worked at too. The things the staff sees is crazy sometimes.

The groom stood up and gave a toast, all well and good. Not sure if he didnt habe parents or what but the bride’s father talked a moment and gave the groom a few jabs that slowly turned into him almost roasting the guy. Took it that the bride’s father didn’t really like the guy. Groom made a jab back and the father slung it right back at him.

And that is when the groom goes off and slugs the bride’s father square in the face and down he goes. Groom says a bunch of “fuck you and fuck you” and walks out of the restaurant. We ended up having to walk all these people to their cars because they were afraid the groom might come back and do something (ha like I’m going to protect your great aunt mulva if he comes back with a gun!).

A couple came into the restaurant a few weeks later, friends of one side of the wedding party. Turns out the groom went back to the hotel, packed up his stuff and left to go back home. Had all the bride’s stuff packed and on a moving truck to her parents place before the weekend was out. Groom just flat out nope’d her.

Nope not so far. It’s always in a meeting with other people, make it a little awkward and everyone remembers so no one denied it as they know others won’t deny it.

So whenever i have to get approval from higher ups that i know they will forget and get annoyed about it i ask that they all stand up and state “i agree / approve to XYZ.” People will laugh and say “really?!?”.

At my last job one of my bosses decided on something that went against what all us in engineering said. So i told him to stand up in front of everyone and say “i acknowledge that this goes against the suggestions by engineering but I would like the team to implement… whatever the feature was.” Two months later he came to a meeting all pissed about how this feature wasn’t working and when he saw me enter the meeting he said “fuck, this is my fault isn’t it?”

A friend from college does software dev for a place that does 4x10-4 and he said the way the fixed issues was by asking for ROI on everything you do. Need to schedule a meeting? Is it worth the cost of people’s time? If so make sure you get the right people, habe everything planned out before calling it so you get your work done promptly.

At first everyone was like fuck, more crap you have to do. But eventually they figured out that much of their time was wasted on crap no one needed to do. Some people stuck around for an hour or two after work to hang out and others took back their lives. Productivity actually increased because people were not as burned out.

Sure but that’s always going to be sub par experience.
