  • I remember being in school 20 years ago and being taught about scale inaccuracies and the importance of frequent calibration. The thing about weight loss is that you will lose weight if you’re in a deficit. Your daily calorie needs are going to fluctuate a little bit, regardless. Most people don’t keep activity the exact same, sleep the exact same, take exactly the same steps everyday, plus hormones fluctuate, etc. Your measurements don’t have to be precise, just close enough. People have also lost weight with sloppy volumetric measurements, counting out chips, or even eyeballing the amount of space taken up on their plate. MyPlate.gov was rolled out after consumer research found that it works.




  • Pretty much every time I want to make something new, I spend more time looking at recipes than actually cooking. That’s why I mostly eat the same thing everyday. I make sure to save any new recipes when I like them, or else I might never find them again.

    For learning to cook, YouTube is free. You can follow the recipe as you go along, pausing and rewinding as needed.

    I buy many dry ingredients online. For fresh produce, you may need to substitute ingredients. I used foodsubs.com a lot when I lived in a rural area and had difficulty finding ingredients.











  • Your roommate was probably just exchanging pleasantries, and the appropriate response would be a short, positive answer and an ask in return. Personally I think it’s dumb to ask how people are if you don’t want an honest answer, but it’s just one of those things neurotypicals say when they mean another. If it makes you uncomfortable to say you’re good when you’re not, you could just ignore the ‘how are you’ part and respond something like “hey man, how’s it going?” or “good to see you; how are you doing?”

    Yup I will sit there hyper focused on code for hours and often ignore the need to eat, hydrate, or urinate, which results in frequent UTIs, dehydration headaches, eye strain, and chronic back/hip pain. People say hyper focus is a super power, but it comes at a cost. Meds help with powering through undesirable tasks, but they can make the hyper focus even worse.



  • I don’t think we had a personal finance class, but if so, I didn’t take it. My home ec class covered budgeting, sewing, cooking, nutrition, interpersonal relationships, safe sex, etc. Home ec was required. We baked once and sewed one project.

    We also had an elective domestic arts class that was half sewing and half cooking. The cooking portion had us make a different recipe every week. The sewing portion had us sew hoodies, pajama pants, embroidery, etc. If you didn’t take domestic arts, then you had to take CAD.
