Silicone rubber spatula, for sure. In Germany it’s sometimes called a ‘Geizhals’, because it perfectly scrapes off every rest of doug or sauce or dressing or whatever you’ve put together. Oh - and my ceramic knife sharpener. Can’t decide which to put at the top.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft confirms Windows 11 is about to change massively, gets enormous backlash - NeowinEnglish
32·21 days agoI wonder when the big software players running their stuff on Win are going to complain. For me, I’m tied to Autodesk. If they would make their mind up and start a Linux version or support Proton (I don’t see, why the advancement in the gaming world couldn’t in principle be applied to productivity software) I would be away from MS at work instantly.

3·3 months agoI recently looked into (affordable) Linux-CAD programs and stumbled upon VariCAD, which, checking their presentation, appeared pretty complete. Saying that I would just make a decision after throwing a serious project, multiple parts, workgroups, parameters and technical drawing generation, on it. Maybe someone can comment on it?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What movie did you see too young that still haunts you to this day?
8·4 months agoAliens. Must have been 12 or so. A boring sunday and my friend’s mom drove us to the cinema. (In Germany the movie was rated 16) but we didn’t bounce off at the desk. I was not exactly horrified, but so … thrilled. After that I dived a bit too deep into the H.R.Giger universe, I guess.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What movie did you see too young that still haunts you to this day?
5·4 months agoI’ve read the book first and that ruined a good portion of the following week. The basement scene still haunts me today. Honestly I don’t dare to touch the movie now …
If someone can please make Autodesk stuff install and run under Wine, not saying Autodesk to deploy their stuff natively for Linux, I’d be gone with the blink of an eye. And I bet a lot of professionals too.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the piece of media so emotionally overwhelming you just stopped it?
10·2 years agoGerman movie ‘Der goldene Handschuh’ which tells the true story of 70’s serial killer Fritz Honka. When a friend proposed to watch it, I seriously thought it to be a sports movie (the german ‘Handschuh’ translates to glove and my association instantly was a goal keeper’s glove…). Well, I was wrong. The dense and depressing atmosphere of Honka’s childhood and life, together with the derogatory, very hard and profane language and of course depiction of sexuality and violence towards women was simply too much for me. It sucked away all positivity at that moment. I finished it later and the director hit me once more, because in the end credits real pictures of the true locations where shown, proving the film’s sets where simply identical. That ripped away the last imagination that what I’ve just seen was just a very dark fantasy and too bad to be real. Brilliant movie and actors (the main actor in his role is simply not recognizable any more from his real life appearance, just like Charlize Theron in ‘Monster’), but too hard to for me to take.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a word you've spent a long time not using right?
9·2 years agoIn German we use the English term ‘understatement’ in some occasions, e.g. ‘his dressing style is a clear understatement…’. My brain somehow tied the meaning to something like ‘understanding’, maybe due to the similarities of both words. For decades it was clear to me that someone dressing like that were dressed to the point and ‘making a clear statement’. Now that I’ve checked the real meaning, I’m completely puzzled when and how to use the term and what I’ve misinterpreted all the years…

1·2 years agoSo, give me a heads up if you find a reliably working alternative for their FCM that enables common apps to … work, e.g. mobile payment (not crypto), alarm messaging for emergency forces, e.g. firefighters. I’d say one can easily step back from google if you rely on independent apps and services (done that for a couple of years). But without FCM some shit simply doesn’t work.
