It would be a shame to lose touch with people. Ultimately I care about that more than privacy. It’s the same with Whatsapp. I’ve made a concerted effort to convince my immediate family to try XMPP, Delta Chat and Signal, but they just won’t install another app unless everyone they know is using it. I find it a bit frustrating, but that’s reality. So I have to keep using Whatsapp.
It can work. I used a dating website (pre smartphone) and I just put in a photo of myself sitting at my computer and a list of bands and movies I liked. My wife approved and asked me out on a date.
I would assume that it’s open for anyone to use, just like mastodon.sdf.org
erici@lemmy.sdf.orgto sdfpubnix@lemmy.sdf.org•Has there been any talk of lemmy.sdf.org preemptivly defederating from Meta/Threads?31·2 years agoMe too. I’ve tried to get friends and family to join the fediverse, but they won’t, because they’re happy with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I think they might join Threads though if there’s a huge critical mass of people on there. I would like a way to interact with them on social media without logging onto Facebook or Instagram myself.
Cluster has a newer version than the MetaArray.
