Yeah, and nobody was forbidden to get out of East Berlin, right? And when the wall fell no one cheered. After all, the wall was to keep westerners out in the first place.

Worst case: I bring a heap of dangerous SCP-like shenanigans into this world
Best case: I become someone’s (mine) power fantasy and get a federal job

edinbruh@feddit.itto Linux@lemmy.ml•[Mostly solved?] audio distortion from hdmi on graphics cardEnglish1·16 days agoIt’s digital audio, not analog, I doubt the GPU could ever be an issue. I suspect either there was a bug in the interaction between pipewire and the drivers (on one side or the other), or an update changed the default sampling rate of pipewire
The Legend has that if you fire up visual studio 2018 with intellicode enabled, start typing “Priv” and only select the predictions it will write a production ready VB6 program for plant management.
Laser printers are the best. You sacrifice the quality of dense pictures, but gain incomparable speed and reliability. It’s especially worth it if you print less often, because the ink dries up if you don’t print every once in a while and you end up buying new ink even though the cartridge is full, but the toner just sits there indefinitely.
“Ternary operator” means “operator that takes three things”, like unary and binary operators take one and two things.
In C there is an operator for conditional expressions (an ‘if’ that you can put inside expressions) and it looks like this
condition ? trueBranch : falseBranch
. It takes three expressions, so it’s a ternary operator.Except it’s the only ternary operator in C (and most languages, if they have one at all), so instead of calling it something like “conditional operator”, they just call it “the ternary operator”
I’ll have you notice that there’s also a gigachad in the meme, not just Kirk
Counterargument:
Admittedly this is a chat app, so there’s little to do. But still, it could stretch out a little bit more, maybe open the conversation info panel on the right
One of my university professors wanted us to program using DrJava, so of course Java 8 it is.
Why did he want to use that? Because it was similar DrRacket, which he made us use in the previous term to program Scheme (which is just lisp for teachers). Of course that was just us being all modern and such, he himself used DrScheme, the deprecated precursor of DrRacket.
This guy is so old that my high school Systems teacher had him as her university professor.
He has a fancy current gen MacBook Pro that he uses for his stuff. Then when it’s lesson time he whips out a windows 95 netbook and a daisy chain of adapters from VGA to thunderbolt.
I was weird and still got the pyramid scheme DM. What about it?
Today I discovered a new website
How is any of those a prerogative of democracy?
edinbruh@feddit.itto Linux@lemmy.ml•[Mostly solved?] audio distortion from hdmi on graphics cardEnglish0·2 months agoTry checking the sampling rate in your pipewire config. It should be 48000. I don’t remember exactly how to set it, check on the arch wiki.
Last time I had issues with digital audio that was it.
Can you imagine how much damage an atomic priesthood would cause? I bet after a mere 600 years it would have lost sight of its original purpose and would start going on holy wars to control nuclear sites and bring home nuclear relics, at best. And it would definitely try to gain power worldwide by fearmongering

Does it? I don’t know for sure, but I’m extremely skeptical. Can you point to the source of this claim?
Even if AIs weren’t inherently harmful, the companies that make them are. And by utilising, publicising, and integrating in your workflow their product you are pumping their value and giving them both more means and more reasons to fuck people over. And because making and selling an AI requires a giant mega corporation, there cannot be a free (as in freedom) alternative.
On top of this, the AI is actually harmful. First of all, they are building their value by stealing other people’s work. They also use psychological tricks to try to give you dependency, that’s why AIs are always overly cheerful, always complimenting questions, and why companies try to humanise the product, they do this to convince you to integrate their AI in your workflow, and once it’s done, your business becomes dependent on them, and that makes them money. And if that wasn’t enough, everything you tell the AI is both used to improve the AI, and to profile for advertising.
