Ace, its great to see so many significant performance improvements in the kernel lately

This is great stuff and, though I’ve not much insight into Arch, I think a big contriubuiton back for the project/community.

That said, the Frame is the first electronics project in the last… 10 years? that I’ve been anticipating the release of, while theres lots of signs of life (more games Verified for Frame, more shipments) some of the news makes the realise itself feel very far away.

I’m well aware I’ve invested way too much, personally, in a product launch, but there’s no unwinding it now.

I think theres two aspects to it

• social licensing - e.g. Google tries and gets away with X, so the others now perceive they’re less likely to receive excessive pushback and are emboldened to go for it. This is why I feel there needs to be a pervasive and continuous push towards consumer rights - smaller cases can snowball quickly in the wrong direction, never so in the reverse.
• share price driven margin pressure, a figurative ideal business that balanced perfectly its price/margins/costs against consumer demands/buying power would still be pushed to make graph go up and right - the usual enshittification argument.

The first feeds into the second, once your competitor moves against consumer interests, C suites are/perceive they are then under pressure to match peers, else fall behind.

Screwing over customers is baked into Capitalism, even more so with the current scale and concentration of a handful of business operating in a weak regulatory environment.

But you shouldn’t waste a second of your time feeling obligated to deal with emails sent largely by automated marketing campaigns.

At work I spend time to organize my inbox, its a necessity, on my personal email, I get security alerts & banking into separate folders, that’s about it, I don’t waste a moments thought on the unread count.

You can store an ssh key in Bitwarden or Keepass(XC) easily enough - Bitearden can certainly be configured as the actual source of your ssh keys with only a tiny bit of config effort

I have lots (100s?) of pdfs for ttrpg rules collected over years - storing in folders is enough to separate by game, but fails when a single book is a mix of content - does it go in the adventure, character options or DM folder?

Having a nice UI with tags and searching would help to organise the collection a lot better.

Accessing all of that across any of my devices while the files actually live on my NAS would a be a big improvement - its easy for my laptop & tablet to get out of sync etc

This is great news, I’ve never sat down and benchmarked the importing times (I believe theres a python -X switch or similar) but the more options the merrier!

LIDL are owned by a huge German wholesaler who are already dealing in large quantities, their middle aisle products are bought in huge volumes because they have such a laegr foot print of stores, unlike your average hardware shops where you’d otherwise be buying your drill, hedgehog hotel and speciality Greek produce.

Signal is my only instant messenger and I can happily report no issues these days with notifications, that said, I never really noticed them previously and have been using for >3 years.

Occasionally we’ll use Signal whilst on a live call, someone will tell us they messaged on Signal and I’ll get the notification immediately - i.e. I knew when it was sent and received.

This is working smoothly on my grapheneos phone and the desktop client across Linux and Windows.

I’ve hopped out of electronics and now make a living coding in an adjacent area, but find myself working with colleagues that are happy approaching all tasks like a script.

Code reviews, coupling etc arent part of their vocab so in lieu of peer role models im on the look out for good resources thst aren’t just chasing the next buzzword.

I started trying to use Joplin and couldnt get over it using a database rather than raw .md files. Once I’d added a bevy of plugins the UI really didnt seem to be handling thinhgs well.

I considered VS Code ± Foam and found myself doing a lot of the work baked into Hopping/Obsidian myself, and could see coming a less rich plugin ecosystem once I was done.

Quite happily using Obsidian now and managing my files myself. Glad I can just get on with de-OneNoting now.

Seeing privacy & security taken seriously offsets the lack of OSS for me.

I really enjoyed the couple games I’ve had of the newer edition. The small changes they made felt quite impactful and that bit more dynamic than the original, though it’s been long enough I don’t recall the details.

You can also put vim inside VSCode via extensions!
