Privacy@lemmy.ml•The Boost android client for Lemmy is displaying these dark pattern ads pretending to be system notifications. What security/privacy conscious Lemmy clients do you recommend?
1·2 years agoIt should not. Some phones don’t play well with private DNS though, mostly entry level ones that thrives on spying.

You could always try to “downgrade” the wifi to b/g/n on uour roiter and see if it works then.
Maybe the wifi card your laptop is too old for new gen wifi routers (n, ac, ad, ax, 6E). I’ve seen that with old Dell laptops.
Dopamine 3 is the closest to AIMP as far I know. I also use it on Windows.
I’ve been using Tauon for years now and I still love it.
Install a windows first just to launch the Dell Command Update app (you’ll have to download it from the Dell website) and use it to update the BIOS and Intel firmwares.
These laptops even run badly on win10 until you update everything.
Then install your chosen distro. I bet there will be fewer problems then.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Should I convince my mother to switch to ProtonMail?
2·2 years agoI think Infomaniak would give her a more similar experience to Gmail if you’re in Europe. 20GB of mail storage + 15GB on KDrive, contact app, document editing, visio, file transfer, etc.
These websites that are just endlessly piled tiles look so dumb on desktop. And they’re huuuge! How many MB of JavaScript do they need to cram into them where simple HTML and CSS would be perfectly fine and faster.
The closest in features would be Infomaniak.

4·2 years agoNo it’s not. Unless by beginner you mean geek that’s beginning with Linux.
I work with elderly people, they’re the real beginners and I’ll never install a Manjaro on their machines.

I prefer btop to htop.
