Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Youtube has better anti-adblock now. Other than Invidious, any way around it? Purging and re-dowloading the ublock stuff didn't workEnglish
4·2 years agoI usually watch YouTube on a laptop hooked up to my tv, so I downloaded freetube and just imported my subscriptions. It’s got sponsorblock and other features built in, but you can’t like or comment on videos. Overall though I’ve been using it for about 6 months now and wouldn’t dream of going back to YouTube and trying to constantly deal with them fucking it up more daily.
For chaos The Ahriman omnibus follows Ahriman from thr thousand sons legion after the heresy and is a fun story. It’s got lots of thousand sons warp fuckery and some great characters.
The night lords omnibus is one of the first 40k books I read going into 40k with not a whole lot of knowledge. It’s still probably my favorite 40k book, the characters are written incredibly well, the dark moments of horrific comedy are there, it features some great fights.
Fabius bile omnibus follows fabius bile of the emperors children legion in what’s essential a great mad scientist story. Once again great characters and a fun story definitely worth the read.
The lion son of the forest is a very new 40k that follows the lions return to the setting. From what I remember it doesn’t require a whole lot of backstory to be neccesary, as it explains a lot along the way. It’s very involved with some dark angels space marine characters so I could be a decent jumping off point of sorts.
This is the one I’ve heard used most. It’s got everything from full sets to individual parts. https://www.bricklink.com/v2/main.page
If you aren’t sure what piece you are looking for but know what set its from you can look it up on this site http://www.peeron.com/ and then search bricklink by the piece item ID. Hope this helps

Books@lemmy.world•Just finished reading The Bullet that Missed by Richard Osman. I really enjoy this series and can't wait for the fourth book to come out.English
2·2 years agoYa I really enjoyed it too. The dialogue is hilarious in it. There’s supposedly a movie in the works too!

Xbox@lemmy.world•Would it be worth it to buy a used Xbox one X if I only have Game Pass?English
3·2 years agoIs this like the older Xbox X or the series X? If it’s the older one, you’ll have a large back catalog of games to plant but it’s worth noting that a lot of games going forward are only being made for the Series a and Series x xboxes. How much are you thinking of paying for it if you don’t mind me asking?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How it going here? I'm looking forward to helping fuck up Reddit's IPO.
272·2 years agoI’d recommend voyager first it’s what I’ve been mostly using and since I started there’s been almost daily updates adding more and more quality of life features and stuff people are requesting. It’s been pretty incredible to see! There’s also a neat feature that can take your list of subreddits from a reddit account and help you find their equivalents throughout lemmy. Liftoff and Thunder are 2 other good ones I’ve been playing around with. And best of all, no fuckin ads haha

Android@lemdro.id•How can I cast photos and videos from an Android phone to a Windows PC? (no screen mirroring, have the PC act as a chromecast or similar device instead)English
2·2 years agoI used to use an app called airmore on my phone and desktop to play music. It does photos and videos too. If I remember you download the airmore app on your phone(I think you have to install it by apk) and then it’ll direct you to a web Adress on your pc. Once there you scan a QR code to pair thr devices and you can cast stuff from your phone to your pc. I haven’t used it in a while but it always worked pretty decent for me.

Warhammer 40k@lemmy.world•Best and worst Horus Heresy books?English
1·2 years agoI started the horus heresy pretty late and really wanted to get to the siege of Terra books. I found going through the flowcharts and googling “horus heresy minimum reading list” gave me a list of the major arcs of stuff that happens, that is fairly important by the time seige of terra happens. Reading through the responses, I’d say Scars and path of heaven are really good, and also really flesh out the white Scars Legion in a fun way. So far I’ve really enjoyed the siege though. I’m part way through echoes of eternity and found all the books so far to be a worthwhile read (mortis is very long though). If you do want to skip past it to 40k thousands sons stuff though, the Ahriman Series is a really fun read with some great characters!
Awesome, good to know, thanks!
Ahh ok. So after disconnecting you don’t get any ads or suggestions or anything right? Just functions as a dumb tv?
Did it work right out if the box or did you have to connect to update it first? I haven’t bought a tv for some years but I just use a laptop connected to my tv to stream anything, so all the smart features are pretty useless to me. I was wondering if it was possible to keep it a “dumb” tv by simply never connecting it to the internet or updating it.

I’ve had this on freetube on desktop happen constantly over the last few months. Seems to happen after watching a certain time length on YouTube and then blocks me from watching on freetube or using YouTube embedded. It tends to come back for me after a few hours. All its made me to is cut back on my youtube subscriptions and watching by nearly 90%
