Airplane fuel efficiency is impacted by how much weight is onboard, and that includes fuel weight.

The more they know about the actual weight of each trip, the more fuel efficient they can make each trip.

HOWEVER, even though this is well intentioned, it’s not hard to see American carriers would love this be standardized. They would definitely leverage it to further increase their revenues. Which they will then reinvest in…checks notes…stock buybacks.

I think it’s more of a signal that they weren’t replaced because they were incompetent, or something scandalous.

They were replaced because Zelenskyy wants progress, and it wasn’t happening.

Now, whether or not this was a good move, or their replacements will be any better, or worse, is something that only time will tell.

Personally, I’m skeptical that the current circumstances allow for significantly better Ukrainian results. Moreso, I’m worried things could be going a lot worse.

Again, that’s assuming nothing else changes in regards to the volume of military aid, or the capabilities being provided.

The only reason I can think of is that the organizers figured their only penalty would be fines and lawyers expenses, as long as they didn’t go to the necessary lengths to hide themselves.

They could have purchased pre-existing shell companies, or created one overseas, and used those dummy corps to pay some American VOIP provider to run their automated call campaign.

Maybe they thought that if they did go that route, and somehow eventually got found out, their might actually be consequences.

That would be incredibly expensive. 5G modems are not cheap, and I can’t imagine there’s enough consumer demand that would justify the additional upfront cost and ongoing recurring charges. They’d be in clearance bins within a year or two.

I’m sure some niche displays already have embedded 5G WWAN modems, but they’d be commerical displays for digital signage, videoconferencing, etc. Those won’t be cheap, or consumer standard issue anytime soon.

I have NEVER hooked up a smart TV to the Internet, and they work just fine with my digital boxes.

The bigger problem for their economy is their aging population, well, that’s a problem in most developed countries, but China is going to be hit particularly hard due to the lingering effects of old policies. But that’s a macro economic problem for the medium to long term.

In the near term they’ve exposed their economy to the same shithead neo-liberal speculation driven private profits, public loses, as the West has. Sure, it has a China specific spin to it, but similar enough to cause a real bad time.

All the economic data I’ve seen shows that their economy is going to shit the bed, hard. This is due to a mixture of bogus economic data coming home, real estate market shitfuckery, and the trade war/tech sanctions.
