Great visuals. Better plots are written on bathroom stalls.

Fun fact: Piracy is still supporting the film industry. We see movies, talk about it, free publicy, reviews etc.
Apparently in the industry they consider the value of a pirated movie about 1/4 that of a paid one.
Some programs etc would pretty much die without piracy like the Adobe suite
blahsay@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We live in a post information scarcity society and we still haven't moved on from capitalism.22·2 years agoEh not really. Lock replicators from weapons. More resources means adequate mental health support. No scarcity will remove most war justification.
Religion will be the last thing we need to kill for peace. It’s inherently divisive and anti science
blahsay@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We live in a post information scarcity society and we still haven't moved on from capitalism.41·2 years agoYou’re confusing wealth with resources. If we evenly distributed wealth everyone would be wealthy but it turns out farmers would still have to farm etc.
We don’t have the resources to give everyone on earth a palace. We don’t even have the resources on earth to give everyone a western lifestyle sadly.
Infinite resources/energy is waaay past what you’re thinking. Think startrek and replicators

Relax, it won’t affect that case.

They will just go through the motions of pretending to want peace.
blahsay@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We live in a post information scarcity society and we still haven't moved on from capitalism.103·2 years agoThe problem is that while we have infinite information we do not have infinite energy/resources yet. The shift when we get it to remove power from the structures will be larger but reminiscent of the piracy/copyright battles lately

blahsay@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is the bot/troll situation getting worse?English11·2 years agoThe odds of someone coming up with the same sentence as an llm within common sense bounds of time far exceed winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning.
Your second point is straight up nonsense. This platform is for humans to interact. The use of bots is inherently deceptive.
Fascinating to have someone argue for them. I think the backend logs will be pretty illuminating.

blahsay@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is the bot/troll situation getting worse?English21·2 years agoThanks but not sure what’s currently implemented or even what the code base is written in 😅.
I might have a poke around and see if there’s any low hanging fruit.
Call me crazy but with a 5b ipo about to start I’d be shocked if reddit wasn’t paying some troll farms to brigade the fediverse and it’d be a shame if spez wins
blahsay@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is the bot/troll situation getting worse?English51·2 years agoIf I was designing an anti troll/bot system I’d implement a few things. Let’s call any bad actor on here a bot/troll or broll for ease.
- Reputation based posting isn’t a bad idea if carefully done
- When a broll is banned any users from the same ip are flagged a suspect and a subsequent ban causes delayed posting from that ip. If a VPN the instance host list has the same effect applied. Exceptions based on Reputation.
- You can check if text is ai/llm generated and an automated api check before posting and immediate ban if found.
- Checks on if a user posts inhumanly fast or is oddly active etc would be sensible.
- Any broll system has to be adaptive and measures taken need to be kept secret (this post for example).
blahsay@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is the bot/troll situation getting worse?English61·2 years agoIt’s interesting right?
I’m thinking the architecture of the fediverse makes it particularly vulnerable to these sorts of attacks.
I’m pretty sure I’ve spotted bots circle jerking on some subjects also which makes me think there’s a few different sources.
blahsay@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you be surprised at all if there was a re-emergence of slavery in the United States?62·2 years agoThere are slaves, just low numbers because it’s illegal. There’s also a lot of working arrangements with illegal immigrants that look very similar in a bad light.
In fairness most western countries have a low level of slavery - they found some forced labour on a farm in Australia a few years back for example.
If you’re asking if any US state wants to legalise slavery, it’s extremely unpopular everywhere, except in a few niche pointy white hat communities.
blahsay@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is the bot/troll situation getting worse?English112·2 years agoYou’re not imagining it. I’m pretty sure you can see regular work from propaganda teams on lemmy. I’d love to see the backed logs to confirm it.
They tend to work in very hostile teams to brigade topics.

I strongly suspect this guy has a room temperature iq (celcius) and will probably be wondering why he was charged with destroying a baphomet statue rather than one of satan (he spells it Santa though when he gets crayons).
