Don’t try arguing with these people. They’ve never had to deal with someone in a meth fueled psychosis where the slightest movement can be perceived as some kind of taunt or challenge to them.

Someonelol@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Americans, how would you feel about making student loans completely illegal?8·2 years agoAssuming nothing is done to curb the recent capitalist tendencies of universities to inflate tuition then yeah it would be mostly restricted to the wealthy. It might be possible that market forces would coerce them to become cheaper again in order to not end up getting shut down from lack of funding from lower enrollment though.
Someonelol@lemmy.mlto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•New Study: 54% of American Adults Read Below 6th Grade-Levels23·2 years agoThis is infuriating. No one should be denied borrowing a book because they’re not at their “grade level”. That’s the kind of shit that contributes to people losing interest in reading from a young age.

Mexican news. It happened in Zacatecas last year.

Someonelol@lemmy.mlto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•[Discussion] What games are you currently playing on your deck? - October 20236·2 years agoYakuza 0. I think I’m doing something wrong because the resolution’s set to 720p with all sliders set to low and I still get 25 to 50 FPS.
I saw an angel casually walk down a street with a human head in his mouth. I’d post the video but, y’know, rule 4.
East LA by Atlantic and Whittier. Used to be an opera house.

Someonelol@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•The summer is over, schools are back, and the data is in: ChatGPT is mainly a tool for cheating on homework.English162·2 years agoI hate to say it but there are simply so many subjects to cover in a single day that it’s hard to reinforce the lessons learned in class within the given amount of time in a school session. Maybe if schools were structured in a way in which fewer subjects were taught each day would the lessons stick better without the need of homework.
Someonelol@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Meta is bolstering perks like happy hours and company swag as it pushes staff to return to office, despite its 'year of efficiency'English5·2 years agoRecruiters keep asking me to apply and I must’ve told them to pound sand about 3 times in the past 2 years.
Someonelol@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Meta is bolstering perks like happy hours and company swag as it pushes staff to return to office, despite its 'year of efficiency'English16·2 years agoThe janitor works for $8/hour out of desperation. The CEO works for $10k/hr out of greed. The difference in pay rates based on position should be regulated. I think a CEO should only be paid at most 10 times more than the lowest paid job in any organization. That way everyone will have some parity and a shot at a decent life even at the low end.
That’s a long drive. I’ll have to put on an audiobook.
Same in Mexico though in El Salvador it’s referred to beating someone up if spoken as a verb. I got really confused when a Salvadorean guy was telling me he fucked another guy only to find out it was actually in the context of a fight.
Someonelol@lemmy.mlto World News@lemmy.ml•can you imagine an American grocery chain standing up to their vendors?22·2 years agoI wouldn’t mind if they passed the savings on to the consumer… But they won’t.
I can’t read the first link as it’s behind a paywall. The second link talked about how Roosevelt tried to establish cordial relations with the Soviet Union but was hampered by their refusal to acknowledge debts owed by the Tsarist government, refusal to stop spreading propaganda within the US, and the killing of Leningrad Communist party boss Sergey Kirov which " launched the first of the “Great Purges” that led to the death or imprisonment of millions of Soviet citizens as the Stalinist regime liquidated any potential critics of the government. The wide scope and public nature of the purges horrified both American diplomatic personnel stationed in the Soviet Union, and the world at large."
Gee I wonder why the USSR had such a tough go at getting allies…
Last I checked the “tankies” signed a non-aggression pact with the Nazis and only became a reluctant ally because they were betrayed.
Having a digital only version of a console is very concerning from an e-waste point of view. It’ll be an odd-shaped brick years later when the digital store front is long gone and the old SSD gets corrupted.
