  • I could be wrong, but isn’t the idea that it removes the film grain to aid compressing the ““actual”” image behind the grain, and then the player adds the grain back in during playback?

The way you say it makes it sound like you want to compress the grain itself, and that sounds to me like a “I like the vinyl crackle in my digital media” take. Not that that’s a bad thing, everyone has preferences, but it’s also unlikely that AV1 (or any codec for that matter) was designed with the preservation of accurate film grain in mind.

  • I think the main complaint is “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

I like the old UI. I had no complaints. So why change it? So much developer expense for zero user benefit.

I used that one revert Gist that NTTS talked about and it’s been the same as always ever since. If Discord makes an update that removes the old UI then I’ll use an old version until they absolutely force me. I will not voluntarily use the new UI, because I think it’s not as good, and that’s it.

  • I played on release and then stopped after a while. I left a positive review hoping the game would improve over time.

I came back a year later and literally nothing had changed. In fact, it had gotten worse. The same bugs existed as when I first played, and my controls had now broken (Index controllers now cannot cast spells??) and there was no fix or workaround available online.

Given the amount of money and time they had to fix and test things, my review is now negative.

I want to like Forgejo but the name is really terrible.

Is it “forj-joe”? Nah, that double-J sound is way too awkward.
Do you then merge the J sounds to make “forjo”? If so, why not just call it that?
Is it maybe “for-geh-joe”? That seems the most likely to me, but then that ignores the “build < forge” marketing on their website.

I know it’s pretty inconsequential, but it feels weird using a tool that you don’t even know how to pronounce the name of.
