Are you kidding me? Go was developed by Google, and they’re using Rust more and more as it gives them measurable security benefits. The Linux kernel is also slowly including Rust. So I have no idea what industry you’re talking about but it certainly isn’t the IT industry.

Many modern programming languages like Rust and Go and Zig compile statically anyway, so don’t use any libraries. The whole “my distro supplies my libraries” model has been steadily losing relevance for years now. Flatpaks are just one more example of this.

You can. There are simple options, that only recognise predefined sentences, that even work on a Raspberry Pi, and at the other end of the spectrum you can host an LLM locally and chat with that if you have the right hardware (Coral isn’t powerful enough for that, you want a GPU with lots of VRAM). Obviously setting this up is more complicated, but there are a lot of options to do it your way.

Depends on which one you have. If you buy their own smart speaker (Voice PE), which is designed to stay entirely local if you have the right hardware and software locally, and even has a hardware switch to temporarily disable the microphone, it’s pretty easy. And of you don’t have all that locally you need a paid subscription to use their cloud a little bit, but they won’t store anything. So still pretty easy.

Dutch person here. My bed is 220cm long. Default size here is 200cm long (basically a king in length) but 210 or 220 are not hard to get.

Also if you both snore you’re going to end up in different beds anyway.

I usually tell people running MySQL that they would probably be better off using a NoSQL key-value store, SQLite, or PostgreSQL, in that order. Most people using MySQL don’t actually need an RDBMS. MySQL occupies this weird niche of being optimised for mostly reads, not a lot of concurrency and cosplaying as a proper database while being incompatible with SQL standards.

Most of the delays are effectively from pre-ordering. I ordered mine just after last Christmas, got it the first week in January. Would have probably been faster without the holidays. Also, get the AMD model if you can, it’s much better than the Intel offerings.

Kernel panics are pretty rare though, I’ve had a lot more bluescreens than kernel panics in my life. If you want to criticise Linux for being complicated go right ahead but implying that it’s unstable is a really weird take IMHO.

You should seriously consider a flip phone if pocket size is your main concern. They’ve become really good by now.

I’ve had it for a couple of months now. Sure, it sucks, and I can’t work currently, but I’d much rather have this than die though. This will pass (almost everyone gets better in a couple of years max), death is rather final. Also, don’t kid yourself about the people that had COVID but don’t experience long covid. Many of them have permanent changes to their body too, they just don’t know it.

That’s not true, “regular” Li-ion batteries have become tremendously cheaper and have increased their capacity by a lot in the past decade. The next jump in their capacity is about 50% more again, and it’s already being previewed by the big battery manufacturers. They’re not going to be cheap though.

It wasn’t an official statement from Valve, it was a reply to a support request. People are reading way too much into this.

You can have all three of those, but you won’t get great performance. The Samsung QVO SATA drives are a great example. I wouldn’t use those for an OS drive but they’re fantastic for NAS or media use.

My i3 has an OBD-II port, and it’s not the only EV that has one. Bimmercode can change A LOT of vehicle settings through the port, and software like ABRP can use it to read out the battery level and route you to the next charger when needed.
