Nope. I really don’t see it that way. At least as a european.

Without a digital currency, the payment system we are left with is the mastercard/visa american duopoly, plus a plethora of startups that try to lock you in them, as you can only pay to and from other users of the same technology, often semi-locked to a specific country (satispay, vipps, ideal, giropay, etc)

Of course, you can live in the 1900s and pay cash, but let’s be realistic.

Against the “tHey WiLl bE aBlE tO dO aNyThInG wItH uR mOneY” argument: they can already. Currencies are already backed by the fucking ecb or whatever applies in your case. The banks already have a list of all your transactions so I don’t see how that would become a new concern either.

Moreover, speaking euro-wise again, there is no plan to eliminate cash with the introduction of a digital currency. And i refuse to judge a policy based on an alleged “intention”, what matters is the written facts.

It has to be said that parallel to this we (users of sepa banks) now have unlimited, instantaneous, fee-less bank transfers, i belive thanks to eu regulations. It might be okay for person-to-person transfers but as of now very few businesses accept transfers and it is usually only for large purchases, the rest you are mostly expected to pay with card (visa/mc).

  • Lmfao what does Russia even has to do with Sweden?

    we are so fucked

Yes, if Sweden were to be populated only by people that associate the Russia-Ukraine situation with “we are gonna get invaded by russia because the donbass did”, I would say you are fucked, because it’s quite hard to run a proper democracy with a population lacking basic history and geopolitical knowledge.

    And private gun ownership

Ah yes, private gun ownership, the true horseman of a country’s defense when getting invaded by another. Lol.

    Thank you Social Democrates…

You have the luck to live in one of the countries with one of the most solid/corruption-free democracies and level of education in the world (even though it doesn’t appear to be true for all sweds) and you have the audacity to come here and complain that you cant carry a gun around and accusing your fellow sweds of voting for the same politics that allowed your country to reach such progress… As an italian, I would kill to have my country’s politics elevated to that level, from the corruption shit-show that they have basically been for all history.

Seriousy, educate yourself, especially on what war in Ukraine. Thanks. Do it for your country and for its democracy.

  • The Catholic Church has protected pedophiles among their ranks for as long as the Catholic Church has been around.

It is documented and undeniable that there have been such figures in the church, but it is my opinion that this specific pope has been trying to bring the church in a different direction, both on this specific issue, but also generally more progressive, if you want.

Yeah, a real leader among leaders.

Thanks for sharing this article, I’ve read it and tried to do more reaserch on the topic (turns out the wikipedia page on the matter is pretty dense and source-full, while the NYT wrote just has a couple lines written quickly). I will answer with this article from the guardian

  • I think you missed the meaning of inefficency on this matter…

While it is undeniable that electric cars have a better supply-to-engine energy efficency than combustion cars, you can understand that they are equiparated in the meme as “equally bad” if you think outside of the box labelled “rubber wheels on high friction asphalt transporting usually a single individual”.

Compare that with a tram or a train, transporting multiple passengers with the same electric engine but also steel-on-steel friction on the wheels and the difference between an ICE and EV vehicle becomes a mere approximation error; god I can do the math for you if you want, but I bet even a disel bus with a lot of passengers has a better efficency/passenger ratio than an EV.

So 1 electric car = 4 less carbon liquid fuelled cars worth of pollution.

Also I think this is a bit misleading: if I buy an EV this won’t magically destroy 4 (where is this number from?) already existing carbon liquid cars, it merely means you avoided adding 1 other ICE car to the total.

Not the same bed width or volume though.

Are you going to tell me that insane difference in vehicle and engine size and weight is needed to gain that extra inch and a half of bed width? I think we can agree it is absolutelty not and I am pretty sure you can find a model of the sane truck with a larger/longer bed as well. Actually here it is, and it hauls way more than the “truck”, crazy bro they even made a version thats closed and higher so you can bring like 3x more stuff and it doesnt rain on your precious power tools or literally whatever you are carrying around.

Not the same comfort level in the cab or crew capacity.

Sorry what? Comfort level? You mean like ass-heating seats or cup holders? Werent we talking about a work vehicle? And even if not, what comfort feature is it not possible to implement in the smaller one? A toilet in the backseats? The crew capacity argument kinda “holds” in the very very specific and nieche scenario where you need to carry a very big team… but also not that many tools and materials? And I think we can agree 99,99% of the trips done in those don’t fall within this scenario.

Definitely not the same towing capacity.

14000 libs towing capacity, my brother in christ, do you need to tow a tank? Because if not, the only thing that number is towing is its marketing

It’s silly to buy the bigger truck just to drive around town, but there are plenty of legitimate reasons to get one.

And that’s kind of what this entire community is advocating for; I don’t think no one cares if a person that actually needs a worktruck buys the silly type of truck for actual work (even though this posts wants to say that for A LOT of those cases there might be a financially and efficiency-wise better alternative). What’s stupid is that roads in some countries around the world are filled with them and I assure you 99% of them are used for the 1% they are advertised for.

Wall of text, forgot to say that they also have shitty visibility, while the second type one is great
