MyNamesTotallyRobert@lemmynsfw.comto Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft's Windows lead says the next version of Windows will be "more ambient, pervasive, and multi-modal" as AI redefines the desktop interfaceEnglish22·8 days agoI exclusively use Linux. In fact I don’t even own a computer that Windows would install on, at least not without hacks or workarounds.
I also play a lot of games. In my experience only the trashiest of the trash games don’t work on Linux. Developers have to go out of their way and do extra work to make a game not run on Linux these days. I will happily play an indie alternative of whatever trashy enshittification-sponsored game won’t run on Linux in the increasingly rare situation where I encounter one.
People posting stuff like this either aren’t really trying or are pushing an agenda of some kind. Remember how random users you had nothing to do with would insult and fight with you on reddit any time you say anything good about marijuana but on lemmy no one really does that? This type of thing smells like that. I’m just saying.
MyNamesTotallyRobert@lemmynsfw.comto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If suffering is good because it gives life meaning, wouldn't it follow that hurting people is good?2·11 days agoA lot of evangelical conservatives think pain and suffering brings people closer to God. This is why they knowingly support harmful policies. This is why many of them seemingly fight for things that make their own lives harder (along with everyone else’s of course). Look at Mike Johnson for example. That fucker KNOWS his ideas are harmful and he KNOWS he’s dragging society into the ground and thinks he’s doing the LORDS work.
Wow i’m sure this comment section is full of respectful and constructive discussion /s. Lemme go pop some popcorn.
MyNamesTotallyRobert@lemmynsfw.comto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•They don't make 'em like they used to9·12 days agoI make my own moonshine because I can’t even afford alcohol but still need the my brain to produce at least some happiness chemicals at least sometimes. Bungs are fucking useless. They don’t stay put, they just slowly wiggle out of their hole after 2-3 days. It’s hard enough to jury rig a bung to stay put in a hole that the effort is better spent coming up with a different type of airlock system that doesn’t involve bungs.
MyNamesTotallyRobert@lemmynsfw.comto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Something we can all agree on39·15 days agoWow absolutely fuck OP for NOT paying hundreds of dollars commissioning a human artist just to make a shitpost on the internet. What a scumbag. OP is a bigger threat to humanity than the laundry list of other evil people and corporations we’d all be better off without if someone ran them and their supporters through a guillotine.
I always wonder how many of these people are hyper salty that no one’s buying their shitty art vs how many of them actually hate ai and anyone that uses it for other reasons. There are ways you can use the enemy’s weapon against them you know… and by the enemy I mean the corporations that are colluding with each other to keep wages low and the cost of living fixed to the point we all have no future. Fight the root cause not the symptom.
MyNamesTotallyRobert@lemmynsfw.comto Technology@lemmy.world•Trump says he plans to put a 100% tariff on computer chips, likely pushing up cost of electronicsEnglish231·17 days agoExpecting companies to build their own chip foundries and manufacture their own chips to avoid tariffs is as unrealistic as expecting poor people to singlehandedly use nuclear fission to create atoms from nothing to materialize into existence all the food they can’t afford. Even if these American “use AI for everything” megacorp regimes that can’t even write a mouse driver that’s under 1gb actually put their big swingin’ dicks back into their pants long enough to actually figure out how they could be efficient enough use the more achievable 90nm and 65nm chips, even that is so unachievable they’d never find a way to mass produce them affordably. Russia supposedly managed to diy their own 350nm chips which is barely even mid 90s Pentium 1 era bullshit and even that’s probably fake propaganda that, best case, followed some half successful low volume experiments in a lab.
The only purpose of this is to cause mass calamity and force people further into poverty while corporations have an excuse to make everything even more expensive without giving anything back to society in return.

I don’t think I truly understood the meaning of “hatred” up until the last couple of years when the majority of the fucking population decided engaging in ideological warfare for the fascist agenda was what they believed in.
Death to fascism.
MyNamesTotallyRobert@lemmynsfw.comto Technology@lemmy.world•Spotify fans threaten to return to piracy as music streamer introduces new face-scanning age checks in the UKEnglish42·18 days agoI have never in my entire life paid for a streaming service. I didn’t stop pirating when Netflix was the only game in town and cost $8 / month. I didn’t pay for streaming even when every normie started getting internet access and “everyone was doing it”. Even during the high point of my life where I was not only gainfully employed but also able to accumulate savings I STILL never had a streaming service. You could count the self hosting spotify clone I made as a “streaming service” but I’m not paying extra money or probably supporting people with different ideological beliefs than me in order to use it so that really doesn’t count.
Whenever this get posted people comment about ACKTUALLY this is bad because no food/water/electricity or whatever but I think we’re missing the point. If you magically woke up one day and had rightful ownership of this land and this house, presumably getting out of paying housing costs or rent, well, if that happened to me that would be the highest point of my life so far. Solving the problems of all the other stuff you wouldn’t have is still a more realistically solvable problem than trying to make a sustainable income in the face of rigged housing costs in this absolute clown show of a society we live in.
MyNamesTotallyRobert@lemmynsfw.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you deal with the left over fat/oil in your pan?21·19 days agoSometimes I save it and put it in the fridge until the wet stuff separates from the fat. I then mix it with lye that I get from wood ash to make really shitty soap that’s okish for doing dishes but not much else. You shouldn’t put this in a washing machine because it will corrode the metal parts, you shouldn’t wash yourself with it because its bad for your skin but I hope to get it to where I never have to buy dish soap again. Every single little consumer product that I can find a way to live without increases my chances of survival under this regime or at least extends things for as long as possible.
MyNamesTotallyRobert@lemmynsfw.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What things that are legal today could become illegal in 50 years?2·19 days agoAh yes. the rise of neo-communism. Soon the circle will be complete.
MyNamesTotallyRobert@lemmynsfw.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What things that are legal today could become illegal in 50 years?14·19 days agoComputers and phones that don’t have locked bootloaders. You know how North Korean phones and computers alert the State every time a disallowed file is accessed or the user does something that doesn’t align with The Ideology? It’s going to be like that. Civilian ownership of machine tools will of course be banned on a “possession = incarceration” basis and not just banning sales. Air conditioning won’t become all-out illegal but it will be regulated as rigorously as gun ownership in countries outside the US are, most people wont have lawful access to it anymore and the ones that do only get to cool things down to survivable temperatures and not comfortable temperatures. People will be running illegal refrigerant labs in their basement and making illegal thermostat modchips and everything.
There’s no way the US isn’t going to eventually criminalize all positive drug tests (like many other shithole countries have done including Japan, China and Singapore) once they reverse the last 40 years of marijuana reform and then punish everyone who had any part in it. Having been involved in the cannabis industry is going to be like having been a Jew in 1930s Germany. Same with being transgender, lgbt, or neurodivergent. It goes without saying that not being a maga christian will someday become a “get sent to a torture camp” offense as well. All porn will become as illegal as csam currently is. Cars won’t actually get banned but the non elite class will lose access to them all the same because the government will enable corporations to continue colluding to do price fixing and generating fake scarcity. The lucky ones with prestigious State Approved science or military jobs may be able to petition to be allowed to buy one under government assistance (which is really just an unfairly priced loan in disguise) with a multi-year waiting list similar to how the car situation in the Soviet Union was. Driving rights will likely be tied to ideological alignment in some extent. At the very least, testing positive for nonphysoactive metaboltics of any banned substance will be treated the same as a dui but being lgbt, neurodivergent or non-christian may be also be punished the same as a dui becuase they’d argue it’s “moral impairment” or some shit.
Voting for anyone outside of The Party during our fake elections will of course be a big no-no. The delusional decisions leading to all of this are also going to result in food shortages and mass starvation. People living in strategically important population centers may experience less hardship on average, just like in the Soviet Union. Of course toilet paper is a thing we’ll all have to learn to live without sooner or later.
A long time ago learning skills like machining and chemistry while stockpiling guns and ammo would have been the thing to do but good people have become such a minority that I fear the best we can do is make the most of the time we have left before things get a lot harder and a lot less… worthwhile.
MyNamesTotallyRobert@lemmynsfw.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are things that are illegal today that could become legal in 50 years?71·19 days agodrug laws are going to be drastically different 50 years from now. EITHER people at power are going to be sensible (LOL yeah right) and make the beneficial ones less illegal OR everything will be illegal and testing positive for anything will get you the death penalty or sent to a torture camp.
We might see alcohol banned again, this time with the might of enshitification and modern technology to back it up. It’s going to be a lot more ruthless and cutthroat next time around. Boy oh boy I can’t wait for the absolute chaos that will unfold when companies start firing people left and right for testing positive for alcohol metabolites after they spend zillions of dollars figuring out how to make unbeatable alcohol drug tests with stupidly long detection windows instead of actually using the technology of modern medicine to do anything useful like cure cancer or help people.
I’m currently plotting to bullshit my way into some kind of situation that would involve me moving to Minnesota but I don’t yet have any leads. I’ll get it someday.
For most of world history UK has kind of been among the worst countries in the world. They were committing atrocities in the name of preserving religious ideals before nazis were even a thing. Their leadership has been starving their citizens while the monarchy lives with lavish excess since before north korea ever existed. Committing war crimes used to be as commonplace back in the day as afternoon tea.
How the UK somehow fell into public favor online seems like an anomaly to me. They got attacked during WW2 and then weren’t communists during the cold war. Big woop-de-doo. People usually speak highly of UK online but any time they’re in the news it’s because they’re doing something truly awful (recently moving towards establishing a regime of online censorship on par with that of China’s).
I am shocked whenever I see people reacting to something shitty the UK is doing like its some kind of unprecedented unexpected event. They’ve been doing this type of shit for THE LAST THOUSAND YEARS. All I’m saying is they deserve A LOT more hate than they currently get.
Unpopular opinion: working ONE full time job for full time hours in exchange for getting paid a living wage with not a lot of absolutely absurd strings and conditions attached to it is actually a good situation to be in. The problem is they want us to work well beyond full time hours, at multiple jobs since the cost of living is price fixed, for less than a living wage while passing thc drug tests every 5 minutes. I want to use my tech degrees for ANYTHING besides primarily passing thc tests, the only goddamn thing they care about most of the time. I thought they needed SKILLS.
This is the worst and stupidest timeline and so is everyone who agrees this is how things should me.
I swear to fuck I’m going to learn 3d modelling and start pumping out bulk quantities of 3d porn for money if I have to but the world is a fucking joke right now.
That’s because prioritizing ideology above all else including skills and experience when hiring people doesn’t work out that well. China does the same shit but worse but they’ve been doing it longer and better. Even Oppenheimer recognized that the only way to get the most highly skilled people possible was to actually treat them with dignity. Either FUCKING CHANGE, or wait for the corporations to turn their private security into an army and do a coup just to increase profits by 0.01% via lower taxes, or wait for China to bankrupt the US in a massive arms race like the US did to the Soviet Union during the cold war.
I just hope a lot of the bad people who support the current state of things and want it to be worse suffer hardships during all this I guess.
