Remy Rose@lemmy.oneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What Major Social Media Platforms Would You Like To See Federated Alternatives To That Don't Exist Yet?English26·2 years agoThere actually is a fediverse TikTok equivalent being developed! I’m not sure what the current status of it is, but it does already have rudimentary functionality. I bet the developer(s) might appreciate some help working on it, if anyone has the time/coding skills/money/etc to contribute. Somebody else mentioned Tumblr, and that exists too! So many cool projects being worked on, I regularly check this list to see what’s new, and it’s really heartwarming to see all the work people are putting into making the fediverse such a awesome place. There’s even a Tinder-esque dating app!
Personally, equivalents I would love to see include:
- Archive of Our Own
- RPC/F-List/roleplay platform
- (I’m actually trying to work on one of these myself, but I’m an amateur so don’t get your hopes up lol)
- Etsy
- Ravelry
- A search engine
- (And not just a metasearch using the same index as Google/Bing/etc)

Remy Rose@lemmy.oneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you had to change your first name to something uncommon, what would you change it to?English13·2 years agoI’m loving the creativity here! To me though, “uncommon” implies that it’s not like completely unheard of either. so, my choice would be “Midge”

That sounds amazing!
I had no idea that was a thing! Would they be good or bad for someone who hates memory foam?
For me the stack goes:
- my head
- mostly flat pillow
- my arm
- another mostly flat pillow
- the bed
Big thick squishy pillows (like memory foam) give me neck pain for some reason? I always get one of my boyfriends to “wear in” my pillows for me first 😅

Yesssss awesome, ty!!
Remy Rose@lemmy.oneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Other than filling with plaster and taking a cast of your bits, what use do you suggest for large glass jars?English23·2 years agoOne possibility is that, any of these jars that were vacuum sealed in the first place, they can easily be re-vacuum sealed with a cheap vacuum chamber/hand pump combo. it’s not an appropriate preservation method for all the kinds of things that originally came in the jars, but will keep dry goods from oxidizing/etc.
Remy Rose@lemmy.oneto Lemmy@lemmy.ml•Suggestion: An ActivityPub and Lemmy codebase reading clubEnglish7·2 years agoYes please! I’m kind of a novice at coding and foolishly decided to try doing my own Rust + Activitypub project, so obviously I’m in wayyyy over my head. This would be really really helpful!
Luckily the Rust documentation is very good, but the Activitypub documentation is very bad, and the Activitypub-in-Rust documentation is nearly nonexistent. It must be in the Zeitgeist right now or something, I was literally just wishing that something like what you propose existed.
We use a 3Doodler Pro+ at work, which I think might be the most expensive one out there? I’ve got to say, it really isn’t any easier to use than the cheapest alternatives on the market… There’s just a horrendous learning curve to these things in general, although if you think of it as any other art form then I guess it’s probably comparable.
On ours, I do really appreciate the wide heat range, the ability to access the dual gear extruder during operation, and the swappable nozzles. What I don’t appreciate is the ridiculous markup, the non-standard nozzle size, and them lying about only being able to use their special proprietary filament (it’s just normal 2.85mm).

Remy Rose@lemmy.oneto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Anyone else notice the fediverse is quite close knit?English6·2 years agoI bet it might be fun to, just once, get all the most infamous lemmings goofing around in one thread together. Because communities are themed, maybe they don’t usually cross paths that often
I use this all the time, real filament saver! For the overwhelming majority of real world use cases, the strength of a part has much more to do with the walls than the interior, so it shouldn’t really be any weaker. Just make sure your walls are thick enough.
