14·2 years agoReminds me of the quote:
“When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.”
In the mid 80’s, a friend that worked in a hospital was telling about unusual names. My favorite:
Syphilis (SUH-fill-ess) - the word was on the mother’s chart, she liked it as a variant of “Phyllis”, and thusly named her baby.

Programming@programming.dev•I accidentally removed the WHERE clause from my SQL query in a personal tool. Every row is now the same. I overwrote 206,000+ rows. I have no backup, I am stupid.
12·2 years agoIn MSSQL, you can do a BEGIN TRAN before your UPDATE statement.
Then if the number of affected rows is not about what you’d expect, doing a ROLLBACK would undo the changes.
If the number of affected rows did look about right, doing a COMMIT would make the changes permanent.

5·2 years agoThis is hilarious! I’d love to see it as a skit.
Bethesda games are my favorite. I played Skyrim all the way through on an Xbox 360, then again on Xbox One. I should try a melee character on the next platform, rather than sticking with a long-range archer elf.
I did play through Fallout New Vegas on “survival” mode a few years back. It took a bit longer since a lot of time had to be spent on eating and sleeping. Fun though!
Yea, I can understand. The early part of the game is marred by Preston Garvey giving one assignment after another, and having to rush off the defend settlements.
But FO4 has a quite elaborate settlement building component, and after ringing them with turrets and other defenses, they can pretty much take care of themselves, leaving more time to wander.
There’s quite a variety of things to see outside the city. My favorites are the Glowing Sea to the south west and Far Harbor to the north east (DLC).
The thing that really gives FO4 longevity, for me, is that the leveling up has no upper limit. Whatever character traits one picks initially should theoretically converge to a character with everything.
Ah, yea, sorry. I’ve only ever used one character, and I think I started with mostly an “intelligence” build.
My character’s current SPECIAL stats are 10, 13, 7, 12, 10, 9, and 9 at level 129.
I’m playing on an Xbox One with just the six DLCs.
I installed one mod a looong time ago, whose name and purpose I don’t recall, and since then my gamer score has not increased despite having played several other games.
So, I’m a bit leery of trying anything else. As time permits, I’ll looking into getting things straightened out.
Oh yea! I’m really ready for the immersion in a new universe!
That’ll be the catalyst for me buying an Xbox Series X.
Wandering around Boston in Fallout 4, reinforcing some settlements, collecting some junk for scraps, and sleeping with Cait.
Even found another power armor suit that had somehow gone undiscovered years ago.

I think that’s Milena Velba.
