I can already burn through my entire wireless data limit in minutes. What is the point in it being faster without data being cheaper? At least from a users perspective and not someone who owns a telecommunications company.

Hopefully that battery usage gets better when they upgrade to what is currently Element X.
Izzy@lemmy.mlto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Youtube Anti-AntiAdblocker uBlock Origin FilterEnglish172·2 years agoSomehow? Paying to remove ads is rewarding ads thus causing more ads in the world. It’s not mysterious at all.
There are plenty of ways to not make it an all or nothing service, but that is at least the most straight forward. You could potentially give some of it away and then have to pay for the rest. Or have some stuff for free and more premium content is paid for. Or perhaps based on bandwidth with video quality / resolution.
Anything that is not ads is going to be an improvement.
Izzy@lemmy.mlto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Youtube Anti-AntiAdblocker uBlock Origin FilterEnglish321·2 years agoPaying to remove ads is part of the ad business model. Upset your customer enough until they give you money to make it stop. Once you pay to remove the ads you have rewarded them for implementing ads which lets them know that implementing ads was a great way at making money.
So YouTube premium is not another model. It is the same model. Another model is paying for a service that never had ads at all such as NebulaTV or CuriosityStream.

Izzy@lemmy.mlto Android@lemdro.id•Bluesky gets its first third-party app for iOS and Android with Graysky, launching this month | TechCrunchEnglish7·2 years agoAt least for normal non-tech oriented people it is a Twitter without Elon Musk. Which I suppose is an improvement despite it still being Jack Dorsey.
I think it will be important to see how it is potentially monetized. If they can find some way to stay alive without going down the enshitification rabbit hole with ads and prioritized posts with paid subscriptions like Twitter then that would also be an improvement in my opinion.
Izzy@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Not sure of a better place to ask this but wondering how to figure out why Windows 11 freezes mid game?51·2 years agoThat is a peculiar problem I have not seen or heard f before. It doesn’t sound like it is completely freezing if it keeps letting you play the game. Just windows behind the game is freezing?
Do you play in fullscreen mode where it takes complete control over the graphics output of your monitor? I wonder if there is some driver bug that is not properly relinquishing control of the monitor to your OS when you minimize the game. If possible I’d try playing in either windowed fullscreen mode or just windowed mode next time as a test.
Also it is always worth updating your graphics drivers too.
Izzy@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.ml•China gives Ehang the first industry approval for fully autonomous, passenger-carrying air taxis3·2 years agoAgreed. I already don’t trust car automation. No way I’m going to add a 3rd dimension to the list of possible failures.
How long until someone adds a lemmy watermark onto this?
Izzy@lemmy.mlto Android@lemdro.id•Bluesky gets its first third-party app for iOS and Android with Graysky, launching this month | TechCrunchEnglish122·2 years agoIt appears that there will be no ads and the only monetization is for advanced features. Assuming that actually is true that is a respectable way to monetize something.
It all returns to nothing.
