Exactly. Somewhere in the Funimation ToS, there is almost certainly a clause that absolves them of any obligation of keeping anything you bought available to you at all times. You never owned anything you bought from Funimation in the first place, so there is no obligation to fulfill for Crunchy Roll.

ItsMeSpez@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Browser maker love-in snubs Google-shunned JPEG XLEnglish261·2 years ago“Overall, we don’t see JPEG-XL performing enough better than its closest competitors (like AVIF) to justify addition on that basis alone,” said Martin Thomson, distinguished engineer at Mozilla, last year. “Similarly, its feature advancements don’t distinguish it above the collection of formats that are already included in the platform.”
So is this a legit take on the technology? Sounds like an expert in the field is pretty convinced that this file format isn’t really worth it’s weight. What does JXL give the web that other file formats don’t?

After I paid $2,000 for shipping and customs, the car arrived at my doorstep months later in a massive cardboard box.
But if you’re hoping that you might be able to buy these cars like you do so many other Chinese-made gadgets, keep dreaming.
Well said. I will happily forgo some new features for a while if it means that the overall experience is more consistent.

What a wild business plan. I’m amazed it’s legal.

I have no idea what a properly maintained aircraft looks like and pretty much have to trust the people who are paid to know these things. If you’re uncomfortable with something, by all means mention it, but it’s folly to assume you know better or can make even decent assumptions about the maintenance of a plane unless you are an aircraft mechanic.

I hear this a lot, but I changed from google to DDG about a year ago and haven’t even considered looking back. I can find everything I need quite easily and can only think of maybe a handful of times that I have had to resort to using a bang to try and find something using another search engine. I’m very curious what the difference is between my experience and that of others who have problems DDG.

It’s a scumbag move to try and frame this as anything other than a layoff, but this seems fairly decent of Apple. Admittedly, I’m not sure how this compares to other severance packages though - can someone give context on how this measures up?
ItsMeSpez@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Unity bans VLC from Unity Store.English232·2 years agoThis is a good policy, but it’s not always that simple for people who have been making games on the engine. Many people have spent years of their lives working on projects using Unity, or have already released products using Unity which they are now supporting. Changing a project to another game engine is a massive undertaking, so Unity has a semi-captive consumer base in the short term.

The actor’s product (their voice) isn’t worth any less, but the company could save money by streamlining the creation of a new line through simplified logistics. This way the company has some benefit while preserving the actor’s livelihood.
Of course there’s no way these companies are going to want to pay full price for these new lines, since it’s an obvious point where they can pressure performers to accept a lower rate.
This is not entirely unlike how HUMANS eat bloody CRABS.

The problem is that people will want to re-up as soon as the initial rush wears off which causes a much higher rate of usage.
It’s entirely unreasonable to assume that the average person has the time or knowledge necessary to read, comprehend and agree to every terms of service agreement shoved in their face. Legislation should reflect this fact, and there should be something similar to game and movie ratings that give an easy to understand summary of the agreement.
